A total of at least twenty-four (24) employees at Cebu Global Teleservices, Inc. resigned today, concluding they could “no longer in good conscience continue to serve” following mass attrition of Cebu Global customer care and sales specialists.

CEBU CITY—A total of at least twenty-four (24) employees at Cebu Global Teleservices, Inc. resigned today, concluding they could “no longer in good conscience continue to serve” following mass attrition of Cebu Global customer care and sales specialists.

“It seems that the company has turned to a world of whimsical and capricious management and employee relations, sacking off anyone without due reason, including even malicious advocacies by the site director and HR manager themselves,” the employees wrote in a letter, a copy of which was reviewed by the Pulong ng Manggagawang Pilipino-Cebu Chapter (Association of Filipino Workers-Cebu Chapter).

There had been difficulties in negotiations for a workplace agreement. After meeting with all the employees, 24 employees resigned from work, approximately 2 employees decided not to resign and approximately 34 employees did not show up for work.

A week before their supposed negotiation meeting, employees have already rallied inside the Cebu Global site. Wearing black shirts, the protesters, who work for the operations department, stood in the production floor, shouting “Stop Unjust Attrition.”

“They dismissed many employees in the past and they are doing it again without any due cause,” one employee said, referring to the termination of 39 employees in March, which made its story in the local labor organizations.

“We have been following Site Director Bryan Manubag for many months. We've learned from a reliable source that there is no happy ending for employees in this call center with his leadership,” another worker said, adding that the protests were spontaneous. “His style is different. He smiles at you but while doing that, he is plotting something against your stay in the company. He only protects himself from his boss,” he added.

Another employee mentioned that they did not receive any help from the Human Resources Department. “Dimples (referring to HR Manager Dina Romualdo) keeps quiet amidst all this trouble. She is an HR officer to her own position. She wants to protect herself at the expense of disregarding the many plights of the employees.”

When asked about their employment concerns, one employee answered: “There is no support from management. There is no protection from Bryan. He even devised an unfriendly plan to send home all call agents who do not make any sales for the first four hours of the shift. That is totally appalling for any labor organization. Clearly, this company who claims to take care of people does the complete opposite.”

Open letters are circulating claiming to represent all Cebu Global employees and opposing the unjust management of the call center. The AFW says it hopes it can resolve the dispute, and file a suit against Cebu Global Teleservices if the need arise.
