    CASE:

I want to buy an item in manila.... i am in cebu

I have to send money to an account in BPI manila. I go to a branch of BPI and deposit the money to the account. since the account is in manila. they asked me to pay 100 pesos..... would a few keystrokes in the computer the BPI teller presses it costs me 100 pesos....

I asked that to the teller since this is a real scenario that happened to me......

BPI is BPI.... all branches should be connected.... why do they ask me to pay 100 pesos to deposit to an account in manila... what is the use of computers and the banking branch network..... do they send my money by airmail so i have to pay 100 pesos? its as simple as pressing the keyboard of a computer and the money is sent.... but pay 100 pesos... what a dumb service

In short......... excessive bank charges to move money.... that is the main problem

don't US banks also charge for transfering money from one branch to another? so this couldn't be one of the reasons why they don't have paypal service in the philippines.

I'm more likely to believe that it is because of the frequency of fraudulent credit card transactions originating from the Philippines. As this became a major issue with Amazon.com for a while. Then there is also the issue of the number of Filipinos who don't own credit cards, while steadily increasing this somehow has not pursuaded Paypal to change it's decision on the matter.

Will the petition work? I'm not sure. As corporate drones tend to ignore online petitions such as this.

US bank don't charge if the transfer is between the same bank but in different branches

sending money from a branch in Los Angeles to a branch in San Francisco there is no charge to move the money......

the problem lies when paypal opens here and when you put money in the paypal account from your bank account

whose going to absorb the charges...

in the US to move money to your paypal account from your bank there is no charge.... even to move fund from paypal back to your bank account there is no charge..... for merchant paypal account i think there is a small percentage that paypal charges but the receiving bank doesn't deduct anything.....

I tend to agree with dagget and pnoize.... Bank charges and fraudulent credit cards could be some of the reasons... But could it also be based on our country's economic state and Filipinos' small buying power(yeah and the fact the majority of the Filipinos dont own credit cards)? I doubt this would have happened if we have a bigger economy and buying power EVEN with the problems mentioned above as I do not think the Philippines has the monopoly of credit card fraud and exorbitant bank charges.

If you take a look at the list of Paypal accepted countries, countries with relatively small economy(not all) or "problematic" countries are omitted or in my own words "the usual omitted countries".... As per experience when buying things online, I usually have a hard time doing it because most online merchants do not accept orders from the "usual omitted countries". So I guess Paypal is just following the trend.. If Storm Pay and others offering the same services can do it, why cant Paypal... Maybe for Paypal, the Philippines is not just WORTH the hassle.

If Paypal does not want to do business with us, then why should we force the issue.....

Yes, juts recently paypal announced it would support sending cash from Philippine based credit cards.

And just today, I think, they nabled the system.. and so i tried signing up with my CC and it worked.. hooray for paypal!!!
Although, they still don't accept merchant account signups with philippine based bank accounts, but now atleast we can buy thru paypal.
