from wat i understand.....church and civil wedding...makakuha man mo ug marriage certificate......it's your proof....just like your birth certificate proves that you were born on that day and to prove also that you are the child of mr and mrs. _________.

civil wedding has the same effect as to church wedding....your civil status changes.....from single to married....
but if you put much weigh as to how weddings should be celebrated, then that's where conflict of opinions will arise.....

benefits are the same..... practically, everything is the same... women end up using the last name of the husbands..... yet, for religious people.... importance of church blessing is still the paramount goal.....
