Guys you have to look at the source. The source of traffic is not caused by too many cars, too many jeepneys or too many bikes. The cause of traffic is that most of our drivers are undisciplined. They stop at a no stopping sign. They park at a no parking sign. How many jeepneys or taxi have you seen stopping at a no stopping sign to pick up passengers? A lot right?

To eliminate that, we need to have disciplined drivers and it all starts with LTO. LTO needs to have proper testing. They need to really test the applicants if they are road worthy or not. I know we have that here but our standards of being "roadworthy" is very low. People can buy their license, heck even a friend of mine who has never driven a car or a bike has a license.

So start with LTO, disciplined drivers also means less accident.

We already have all the Laws/Ordinances we need, UNFORTUNATELY these so called government officials assigned to this job doesn't have the guts to implement it strictly.

Just arrived from overseas trip. I've been abroad for a few weeks and last night while wife was driving me home from the airport, I could see clearly with my own eyes that our roads have badly deteriorated. Here you cannot maintain an average speed because you have to be very careful with the sudden bumps and the irregular road surface -not to mention the sporadic potholes. If our roads could be built smooth and reliable, cars can travel smoothly and reduce traffic.

I don't think that the suggestions to have a public transportation, road widening, etc. will work because we need to stop heavy traffic and accidents right now. These things will only work after a few years from now and would cause hassle for months to commuters and drivers alike.

With what we have right now, I think that we've got more than enough roads to accommodate cars, PUJs, taxis, etc. The problem is the authorities are so lax and sometimes invisible. Worse, some of these even tolerate the bad practices of people.

I experienced seeing a CITOM assist a lady cross the street below a skywalk. Isn't it ironic and ridiculous? A CITOM himself breaking the purpose of skywalks?

Another thing, below the flyover at Subangdaku, I saw the enforcer sitting below sleeping while the traffic flow is going bad. People are getting irate and mad and there he was sleeping in uniform. It was around 12 noon during that time and maybe he doesn't want to stand below the heat of the sun or he's just too sleepy. Either way, he should be fired.

Those are just a few of the many, many instances that these authorities have shown incompetence. If they would just implement the laws properly, drivers will be disciplined, the roads will be a lot safer, and a big chunk of the traffic problem will be solved.

Why look for expensive solutions if we can find very practical and easy ones?
