This is my way of observing Good Friday, a little 'Enveloped Ideas' for you to ponder and reflect.

I only have two fears while growing up. One was the life-sized mannequien of Mr. Clean, kadtong opaw na labandero nga solid ug lawas. And the other fear was the Santo Entiero. I always have many kind of dreams about this image even up to now. But why am I scared then? This is supposed to be a replica of a dead Jesus. Am I afraid of Jesus?

It sure looks like a real dead man lying in bed. It opens its eyes when it is crucified, bows its head down when it's already 3:00 pm. It's sure is not really that fun to watch the Santo Entiero in the eyes of a kid. Just like the movie "Passion of Christ", it is very shocking. I wasn't able to watch the whole movie coz it really bothers me, if why Mel Gibson wants it to be portrayed in a very brutal manner. I consider it as a horror film. I grew up watching the Jesus movies such as "Jesus of Nazareth", "King of Kings", "Jesus", "The Redeemer", "Kristo" and even the bisaya version "Ang Magtutudlo". These movies portrayed not just the killing of Jesus, but it all started during the Nativity stage. And I can't dare to watch the part of these movies where Jesus is already sentenced to death. What more to watch the "Passion of Christ"?
On my teenage years, when I was hooked on listening to Metal music, I could relate my Santo Entiero Experience in these three songs:
"I Love the Dead" by Alice Cooper,
"Wooden Jesus" by Temple of the Dog and
"Man in the Box" by Alice in Chains.
Nevermind the guillotine and the evil theatrical antics of Alice Cooper, and I don't even bother to sing the verse part of the song "I Love the Dead", I just love to listen to the chorus part. While everytime I'm in front of a drumset, the first drum riff that would come to my mind was to play the song "Wooden Jesus". The song lyrics goes "wooden Jesus, where are you from? Korea, Canada or maybe Taiwan... but I didn't know it was the Holy Land.". My father once told me that the Santo Entiero came from Korea, so Temple of the Dog was right on one of their choices. "Man in the Box", without a doubt is an anti-Christ song. But I'm using its negative approach to see the lighter side of it. It reminds me also of Sepultura's "Arise" music video wherein the crucified guy was wearing a gas mask. Totally crap video, but nice music though. Sebastian Bach did a photo shoot on a cross. It was on the 1990 Rip Magazine interview, long before he got the lead role to play Christ on "Jesus Christ Superstar".
