The EMPTINESS that only God can fill
The EMPTINESS that science have yet to discover
The EMPTINESS .... the philosophy that is yet to be accepted
The EMPTINESS that will always be here while we still live
You're worried about the emptiness of your own conscious self upon the moment of death? In my opinion, a very selfish POV/opinion, considering the universe is far, far more vast and indifferent than you may think.
Granted, the "fear-of-death-reflex" is innate, it's part of the complex "wired" nature of living things so that they will keep on trying to survive. But are you an animal? You're not--you are a HUMAN being. Thus it doesn't mean that since it's innate, you have to nourish it--you have an intelligent brain, that sets us apart from animals that can only depend on instinct, we have a brain has the ABILITY to distinguish a reflex action from a conscious action--thus there is a way to exist without trying to nourish/encourage the "fear-of-death-reflex"--it's a difficult road, but some people do get there

From my POV sir, the need to have religion does not necessarily stem from the fear of death.
the consequential effects religion brings is very material to our daily living.
i'll give an example, hopefully this wont be taken out of context by some.
e.g ex Gov zaldy ampatuan's case -
for sure he has a lot of hell right now. kung pressurized can pa nah siya ni explode na. but considering he has a religion and its consequential effect of his religion to him is the belief that something happens for a reason, there is hope in every difficult times, mao nga bisan almost full na siya pero wala pa siya ni explode.
you can just imagine him w/out having the belief of a God. In this case, his God became his escape mechanism from the very threatening reality he is into right now, thus, his god has a material value for his survival.. in general, God have practical uses in our daily lives.
So, you already discovered, and admit and agree that it's indeed just an "escape mechanism"...
Analogy: All your life you were afraid of a "monster" that terrified your neighborhood and especially this abandoned house, but as you grew up you realized this "monster" was nothing more than someone's invention to keep kids away from that house which turns out to be a drug-den. So will you keep "pretending" that the "monster" still lives in that house?
Why not take the NEXT STEP and GET RID of the escape mechanism. Like I said, I know it's difficult, but it can be done.

imagine lawlessness?.. kung freedom lang ang gusto (or peace) , try going up to the mountain & live like animals. kadto didto free jud kaayo. no religion, no law. but my question is, will you survive? no electricity, no security, etc? religion divides us but it also guides us. true, nga daghan na ang sayop sa church (or religion) but unsa man ang group nga perfect? atheistim also has flaws (sorry but com' on, we know that they have).Easy target lang ang nga mainstream religion like Christianity (catholics) kay tungod sa ka dako sa organization. taking out religion from the world is like taking out our freedom to choose how we live our life. wait, taking our freedom?! isn't it communism?
Going back to Lennon's "Imagine", most people don't realize it but the song actually talks about communism/socialism. Lennon had Marxist/Leninist views at the time, but his variety of socialism was what the hardcore commies then called a "soft-intellectual-socialist-artist".

exterminating religion is not an option in a democratic country.. Religion (or even without it) is a lifestyle choice. what i'd say to those who wants religion to be exterminate you have 2 choices: go to NoKor (didto walay religion hardcore to didto) or adto sa lasang (complete freedom). now if you don't like those options, then try to enjoy life in a democratic (yet chaotic) country. Try to respect each other's views & lifestyle choices...
Our knowledge of right and wrong is NOT innate in us, it is developed when we grow Up, it was Mold by people who influenced Us. There's No guidelines of morality when a Child is Born - big part of His judgment or way of thinking will be greatly influenced by his surroundings and the way he was raised.
I dont agree that religion gets its morality from man, religion gets its morality by believing that there is a supreme being who is the giver of that morality.
You said "according to thomas dixon "Religions certainly do provide a framework within which people can learn the difference between right and wrong" - So what if we will remove that framework, what would happen?
Since you followed your Morality based on what you think what is right, Then what about other Atheist? is there any Atheist we can call Bad?
