Brazilian international Edu finishes his contract with English Premier League club Arsenal at the end of June and will join Valencia as a free agent from July 1.
"He's an extraordinary player," said Valencia president Juan Bautista Soler when he announced the signing during the presentation of the club's new sporting director Javier Subirats at the Mestalla.
The 27-year-old, who moved to Highbury in January 2001 from Corinthians for a reported fee of six million pounds ($10.94 million), had been a regular in the Arsenal first team.
He played a key role as the north London side enjoyed an unbeaten season that saw them win the title in 2004 but played little part in the recently completed campaign due to a succession of injuries including a broken toe.
He said in January that he had been offered a new contract by Arsenal but the proposed deal had not lived up to his expectations.
Goodbye Edu and wishing for the success.
He contributed a lot in Highbury but he has lots of competition with fellow players. Many thinks that it's about money (yeah arsenal is 'inot') but Edu said that it's time to move on and he likes to play all the time.
He was competing with rising stars in the midfield like Fabregas and Flamini and veterans Viera and Gilberto.
There was dramatic moment against Everton (7-0). The team asked him to take the penalty. Initially he refused because he was not confident with it but then Lauren put the ball in the box and forced Edu to spot it. Edu and many ppl cried. What a nice gesture.
