Well, since our country is an archipelago we do not have any oil pipelines, or maybe can't afford one.
And the distance to the closest countries that produce oil and natural gas is just far too great to have a pipeline built.
And if we get one eventually, maybe the costs of operation may be too great.
But the advantage is that we don't pay the associated fees where a pipeline encroaches on a neighboring country's territory.
And the worse case scenario is like the war of the chechens and the russians. The chechens want to break free of russian control but they are not allowed to do so since a pipeline runs through chechnya. But luckily this does not apply to us.
The alternative, is to use tankers to deliver oil but this is more costly.
