The most basic, and it seems like everbody is rooting for this also, is reading an english book (Im hearing people say "ang ang lagi tagalog") as often as you can. With reading, you get sentence construction and mastery of grammatical rules. Once you are familiar to this, it will come as second nature to you. Its one thing to speak the language with an erroneous intonation and/or diction, but its way different when you mess up your grammar. You can always claim to be from the Philippines and be proud of it, but when your grammar is all messed up, youre in big trouble. This is, of course, my most humble opinion.
