    @kaotep:

    However, in a manual focus forum I belong to (Nikon/Nikkor 50mm 1.4),
    I posted the message below and maybe you can help me confirm my understanding what stop-down metering is, he he:

    --- start ---

    Hi guys. I'm generally a film photography noob. I briefly scanned what is pre-AI and AI and I'm kind of worried now.

    This is what I did to test. I set the ISO to 1600 (it's already night here) and set the aperture to 1.4. I then metered from different objects to see whether the exposure indicator moves. It did. However, pointing at the same object I narrowed down the aperture until f/16 and the exposure indicator didn't change. It only changed when I pressed the DOF preview button.

    I guess this means my lens isn't modded to detect the lens aperture while just viewing, is it?

    So stopping down means I need to always press the DOF preview button to see whether I'm exposing correctly, if not adjust the shutter speed, release the DOF preview button, focus and shoot (ignore whatever the exposure indicator tells me because at that point it's for 1.4 again and not the set aperture).

    Am I correct?

    --- end ---

    @carlo-

    Looks like you have a pre-ai lens. Yes you have to press the dof lever para maka expose properly. Pwede ra na ma convert imong lens to AI. You can check sa net on how to do this if you have the necessary tools and skills. I think you can even have it converted sa mga camera repair shops here like Allens. I have a Nikkor 55mm f1.2 pre ai and it was converted to AI by the previous owner.

    @tommy: I'll bring it to Allen's tomorrow and ask him whether he could. I hope he can. Ako ipa-CLA niya.

    LOL, this is my first time to hear about frozen film.

    @ronjay: A few of us are RF users. I'm a recent owner of two - Canonet 28 and QL17 (non-GIII).

    I got my QL17 back from Allen. It looks almost new but sadly he found no MR50 or PX1 replacement locally and in Manila so he was unable to test the meter. I had no choice but to order an original MR50 from the UK so it would be a 3-4 week wait before I find out whether the meter works. If it does, I need to hunt for a ND4 or ND8 filter for it so it's usable during sunny days.

    I also haven't finished the 24-shot loaded in the FM2n. No event to cover and I don't feel like photowalking downtown.
