probably you are using the sound driver which has driver signed and version that only support for windows98! try to update your driver from the original manufacturer (check on the manual of your driver, scan the manufacturer URL and the country that is being made. getting into their correct domain is important also in order to have the correct version for your driver. your device may have the same name but different version. make sure you get into the right site from where it is being made). when you get into their sites, find the udpate or download driver then give the spec information of your device and choose the windows xp compatibility. if ever you cant find the correct driver or no winxp driver for it, then probably your device is old. try the generic driver, but careful in selecting it can permamently damage your device and worst the CPU itself.
