CHINESE INVASION!!!!!
IN DUMAGUETE
Influx of Chinese students
raising concerns on health
Dumaguete City officials, businessmen, and the academe welcome the presence of foreign students and the planned deployment of thousands of Chinese students in four universities of the city, but concerns over health have surfaced.
Businessman Guilbert Uymatiao aired this after a recent meeting among city government and schools officials and representatives from the Royal Institute of Higher Education at Anyang University in China.
Uymatiao said students from other countries, including China, must undergo strict health evaluation before they could be allowed in.
He explained that the city is not concerned about ideologies, but the students from China must pass through health evaluations, because of the alleged prevalence of Hepatitis B in their country.
The Chinese education officials have agreed to send in about 2.5 million Chinese students to study in Dumaguete City because of Silliman University and Foundation University, peace and order condition, and the affordable tuition.
The four universities could absorb only about 10,000 of the Chinese students.
In their meeting with the Chinese educational officials, Dr. Henry Sojor, president of the Negros Oriental State University, said he had pledged to accommodate at least 1,000 students.
Foundation University, through Dr. Dean Sinco, pledged to house about 4,000, and Silliman University, between 2,000 and 4,000 students.
Meantime, local businessmen particularly owners of hotels, restaurants, dormitories, and Chinese restaurants, have expressed happiness over the development.
They said that officials from Anyang University said they were contented with the Chinese dishes in local restaurants during their brief visit to the city recently.

Dumaguete open to 2.5M Chinese students
By Victor L. Camion
THE City Government, universities, and businessmen here welcomed the expected arrival of thousands of students from China who would be enrolling in Foundation University and other universities.
The students are among the 2.5 million Chinese students who would be studying in the Philippines next year.
But City Administrator Dominador Dumalag Jr. clarified the city's four universities could accommodate only less than 10,000 students.
In an initial meeting attended by representatives from the academe, businessmen, and city officials headed by Mayor Agustin Perdices, Dr. Henry Sojor of the Negros Oriental State University pledged to accommodate at least 1,000 students.
Foundation University, through Dr. Dean Sinco, pledged to house about 4,000, and Silliman University from 2,000 to 4,000 students.
Saint Paul University-Dumaguete was absent during the meeting attended by officials of the Royal Institute of Higher Education in Anyang University in China.
"Sa ilang pagsubay sa mga nag-unang syudad sa Pilipinas, lakip na ang Cebu ug Zamboanga, ang Dumaguete maoy ilang nagustohan tungod sa Silliman University," Dumalag said.
Opportunity
The city administrator said local businessmen were happy with the development, particularly owners of hotels, restaurants, dormitories, and Chinese restaurants.
Dumalag said that during their brief visit, the officials from Anyang University were contented with the Chinese dishes in the local restaurants.
"Gibaratohan ra gani sila sa tuition fees sa atong mga tunghaan," said Dumalag after school officials from China asked the university's representative about tuition.
But some businessmen raised concern over the health issue.
Guilbert Uymatiao said students from other countries, including China, must undergo strict health evaluation before they could be allowed in.
"Wala tay kabalak-an sa Communism but more on health," said Dumalag.
"Ilabina nga prevalent sa ilang dapit ang Hepatitis B," he added.

Silliman University, being an unofficial international school, with students coming from different parts of the globe will soon have fresh chinky faces. The Iranians are the most in number followed by the Koreans. I guess pretty soon, they will be taken over by the Chinese.
Grabe ka loyal jud si Miguel sa iyang eskwelahan. Bagay ka himuan ug istatwa sa Siliman.
