I believe the dinousaurs coexisted with man. And that they were killed by the Ice Age. Not by Shrek or The Incredibles.

Hmm... I think I'll just go with the middle ground.Â* God created the universe and he may have used something like the Big Bang to do it.
It also works with Darwin's Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection.Â* God could be a programmer and engineer too.Â* It would make sense to want to create something that would evolve (and improve itself) by itself, rather than it having to wait for you to create/improve it.

I find no contradiction with the Big Bang Theory and the creation account of Genesis...unless you interpret the very first verse as a kind of prologue or introduction to the very first chapter of the Bible.Originally Posted by yen
Yes, I can imagine God to have use gradual evolution. I mean what\'s stopping Him anyway? It also works with Darwin\'s Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection. God could be a programmer and engineer too.
However, recent discoveries have led many scientists to question the validity of Darwinian evolutionary theory. One of the most crippling discoveries is the lack of consistency in the fossil record. Because of these discoveries, a growing number of scientists, largely ignored, repressed and caricatured by the media, have put forward an alternative hypothesis to explain the origin of life-- Intelligent Design.
I find this rather strange, why would evolving things be more sensible that instantly created things? It would make sense to want to create something that would evolve by itself, rather than it having to wait for you to create it.
Shalom.

Well.Â* God didn't just create one thing, he created a lot of things, which in turn would either work together or compete for the same resources.
Maybe he wanted to see how this design would turn out or how that design would work out.Â* If so, in each design, he could have added in the capacity to improve/alter/and even go back to a previous design.Â* It's like one design has the capacity to be more than just one design.Â* Meaning that his creations are forever changing and evolving, not just sticking with one design.
According to an article I once read about DNA, there's a lot of genes which appear to be just information, like memory in a computer.Â* It's as if our DNA stores previous designs, like a back-up.
I'll see if I can look up that article, and then post it here.

If it was man doing that, I could understand. But God? That is disturbing. I mean "to see how this design would turn out or how that design would work out", seems to imply a lack of absolute knowledge and control in God over the entire process of creation and its results, don't you think? It looks as if God is still learning, where's the omniscience? I thought nothing is unpredictible to God?Originally Posted by yen

Just something to think about: if the homo sapiens weren't fully developed yet, did the ancestors have a "soul?"Yes, I can imagine God to have use gradual evolution. I mean what\'s stopping Him anyway?

If so what makes our species any different from the homo erectus, did those species not have a "soul"?
No, I'm no aetheist but I wonder what is the Catholic teaching on this matter...
That is in the premise of evolution being a fact... although I've heard of a missing link between the homo erectus and the homo sapiens that is if I got the names of the species right.

				Oh. Â*I don't mean to question God's omniscience. Â*^^
It's that... it's more complicated to create something that can evolve/change/improve on its own than something that is just as is (no change).
Sometimes I think that God wanted to see how his creations could stand up against each other.
That's just my opinion. Â*=) Â*I respect science and its accomplishments and I also believe in God (or at the very least want to believe in God) despite that a lot of times - science and religion are at each other's throats.
Here's the article I mentioned:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Junk_DNA
By the way, I think science and religion can get along quite fine. =) Isaac Newton, for example, was a devout believer in God (in fact, he was very devout). Not sure about Albert Einstein, but he was such a nice and humble person. Don't know much about Darwin though.
