SDCC 2014: Daredevil Netflix Show Comes Out In May
Even the very last Marvel panel of Comic-Con International 2014 had some news left to trot out.
The panel in question (live blogged on Marvel.com) was devoted to the 75th anniversary of Marvel comics and the 50th anniversary of Daredevil. The talk eventually turned toward the Daredevil TV series that will lead off Marvel’s partnership with Netflix, and it was revealed that the show will start airing in May 2015.
Marvel Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada was on the panel along with writers Mark Waid and Dan Slott, and he said working on Daredevil reminded him of the early days of Marvel Knights. That was the initiative that saw Quesada and Jimmy Palmiotti assume control over Marvel’s (mostly) street level heroes in an effort to revitalize flagging sales, and in the process, Quesada ended up on art duties for a Daredevil arc written by director Kevin Smith.
Quesada spoke briefly about how the series was shooting on location in New York City, but declined to answer a question about how Matt Murdock would interact with Iron Fist, who will also star in his own Netflix series. He did say that it would be exciting seeing the characters unite in the Defenders mini-series that will bring Daredevil, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage together after their individual shows are complete.
Now that its release date is firmed up, Marvel fans can look forward to seeing Daredevil, starring Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson and Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, next May.
