Tamron AF 28-75mm f/2.8 SP XR Di LD Aspherical?...

Funny that I haven't heard of it until now. Though it seems it came out after I bought the Sigma 17-70 so stopped actually shopping around for lenses.

But reading the reviews it looks to be a very good lens...

Fulltime 2.8... good range for people pictures... very sharp. But I'd miss out on being able to shoot wide. Well, can't have everything in just one lens.

I'd go for it then pair it off with something wide angle... nice price too

Nope... putting something on a lens sometimes just takes away from the quality.

So pair it off with another separate lens for times you need wide angle... like your 18-55 kit lens if your 650D came with it. Or something in the focal range like the Canon EFS 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM or Tokina AF 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X Pro DX

Well, first question is which one would fit your budget more. For something good all around then go with the 28-75. It's a good lens and something you would have mounted most of the time on your camera. Then just go to the 18-55 kit lens when you need to shoot wide.

The Tamron 70-200 2.8 look like a very good lens, too. You could add a very far reach to your lens lineup. But you would have a gap from 55mm to 70mm.

But if a general-all-around lens for lowlight is what you need... then that would be the Tamron 28-75 2.8
