No one was either killed or injured in the second explosion that took place outside a mosque shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday at Suterville in Barangay San Jose Gusu, west of this city, the police said.
The police are still sifting the vicinity of the mosque where the second explosion took place to determine what type of explosive was used.
Investigations continue to unmask the suspects behind the two separate explosions, the police said. (PNA)CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao, Aug. 17 (PNA) -- Three government troops were hurt when a group of bandits attacked two Army bases in Guindulungan, Maguindanao Thursday prompting the military to tighten the security along portions of the Cotabato-Isulan highway.
Col. Prudencio Asto, public affairs chief of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division, said the attack was seen as a retaliation following the fall of Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters main camp and satellite camps in Datu Unsay and Datu Hoffer.
Using 105 howitzers, elements of the 45th Infantry Battalion repulsed the BIFF attackers. Asto could not say whether the attackers suffered casualties in an hour long firefight which began at about 10 p.m.
A day before, soldiers recovered Hill 166, a BIFF camp along Datu Unsay and seized two home-made Berrett sniper rifles, several improvised explosive devices, empty shells and left overs of guerillas now described by the military as "ragtag terrorists."
"There was no resistance as the guerillas left in haste leaving their sniper rifles," Asto said.
In an on going surgical military operations, elements of the 45th Infantry Battalion bury a slain BIFF fighter whose remains were left by his comrades. He was found sprawling near the captured camp with heavy bloodstains visible nearby.
"We received information from civilian evacuees about heavy casualties on the rebels side but that is subject for confirmation and validation," Asto said. He said that many Muslim residents refused to provide sanctuary to the fleeing guerillas.
