i just believe this is just a marketing tactic to improve their standing here... though it gives jobs to the incredible bisayan voice talents, i must admit i share the sentiments of the post in Dolly Carvajal column...

media networks like GMA should use its influence to unite the people, not divide us...

Rating. Of course, this is the name of the game from the very beginning, even when all these TV networks were just germ of an idea.

Whatever TV networks do --- whether it is in dubbing their shows to local dialects or transplanting them or doing goody-goody works in typhoon belts and flash flood areas via their individual Foundations --- are done in the name of the Ratings game.

But Ratings can be artificialized! I remember the days when TV and radio networks doled out batteries and canned goods and calibrated radio sets (one station, theirs), etc. to prospective survey areas in the hopes of being mentioned during Rating surveys.

The funny thing here is that radio and TV networks still do this shameless promotions today.

Indeed, this Rating game is still very much fought over these days. But, then, it is still a lot of hogwash.

rating game is natural for an enivronment like broadcasting because that's thier evaluation to thier performance and i believe that our broadcastting industry lack's investments because the comptetion is not very transparent....

OT: i just wish the ratings game would help these networks come up with intriguing and unique material but most they're coming up is crap...

now i don't mean that they have lousy production design and such... hey we could beat the best of them in korea and other places! it's just the material that they're showing off! no originality! no good character management!

Indeed, this should have been the case; but the fact remains that it is not.

The irony here is that the higher they get up on the ratings and the more they corner the dwindling ads in these difficult times, the more they cut on production costs:

Once I was asked to direct a series for some cumulative episodes for five days (Monday to Friday). But, then, I was only given 2 days to shoot. The cameras, they said, are used by ENG people most of the times and 1 unit of Jojo Labella's OB Van runs to something like PhP150,000 per 9 hours plus talent fees for the van people. Frankly, there was nothing I could do for 2 days except shoot characters talking by the running faucet as they "fetch" water. Add to this sorry fact that some production people (executive producers mainly) want to make more money on the side --- and this they do by forcing the creative team to shoot 10 episodes for a two-week airtime in the same number of alloted 2 days of shoot. The result in all these behaviour is plain and simple garbage.

But, hey, we now have access to digital production equipment. So let us make our own movies and sell them four-walling. I have tried this way and the experience was not bad at all.

why don't they just make Cebuano shows like ABS-CBN's For Life series and their Maayong Buntag Kapamilya morning show?

actually, he doesn't say that anymore. not ever since mr. lastimosa changed his ending to "ang TINUOD nga numero uno sa kabisayaan" (something like that). mr. nalzaro's ending nowadays says, "kami ang kapuso diri sa sugbo" (something like that).

    their rivalry is interesting.
