    Movie Review: UNOFFICIALLY YOURS (StarCinema)
The moment I’ve heard of the Star Cinema movie that stars John Lloyd Cruz and Angel Locsin, I already believed that it is a good material considering Director Cathy Garcia Molina’s track record on romantic comedy films she made in the past were all memorable and mostly Box office projects. Then they announced that the title of the project was Unofficially Yours, I already got carried away.

    UNOFFICIALLY YOURS Trailer

CASTS: John Lloyd Cruz, Angel Locsin, Edgar Allan Guzman, Tetchie Agbayani, Edgar Mortiz, Ian De Leon, K Brosas, Boom Labrusca, Melissa Mendez, Hyubs Azarcon, Mel Kimura, Panying, Patrizha Martinez, Dannielle Martinez, Dana Martinez

    Direction: Cathy Garcia Molina

    Produced and Released: STARCINEMA

GRADE: Rated 13 by MTRCB and Graded B By Cinema Evaluation Board.

The movie tackles about a man who falls in love with someone who doesn’t want to fall in love, they met at the very aggressive convenience where they had a one night stand. John Lloyd plays the role of Macky Galvez, a depressed young man who’s been contemplating on why he had several failed relationships. Angel, on the other hand, plays the role of Ces, a modern-day woman who is afraid of commitments.

I think this is Angel Locsin’s one of the best performance as an actress. Having her in Free television (Primetime) act and with her previous box office Movie In The Name of Love opposite Aga Muhlach, I can say that Locsin maintained the refinement and finesse in acting. She was able to deliver the character without with poise and distinction. I like a certain scene on the movie where she is just crying and explaining her past, to mention a few.

John Lloyd Cruz on the other hand, never fails to amaze me. I have seen all his films (I guess) and I always believe that he competes with his last performance. He never fails to elevate and transform into a brilliant actor. Being a Box Office King for a couple of times must be an indication of his success and brilliance.

The challenge on the movie is to answer how it differs from some Hollywood Films that tackles relationships that has no strings attached. Director Cathy Garcia Molina explained that it differs as the story is original. The emotions and situations are mostly pinoys. With that said however, it was a really enjoyable film. Cathy Garcia has proven that it doesn’t need more flesh to make a point on casual ***. How she gave importance to safe *** on the film is an added plus for me.

The jokes were not that offensive and you get to see one of the most smile inducing emotion being fulfilled on screen (i.e. love). This is one romantic comedy film that I realized I loath the genre. It’s filled with the same plot line and character gags what’ve become so trite that I need to find a whole new word to express how well travelled the ride that is the romantic comedy is. However, what has always, in every kind of movie, been able to usurp this problem of familiarity are great characters; and that’s what UNOFFICIALLY YOURS has.

Mackie and Ces on the film know how to just keep their conversations all pithy and introspective at the same time. One moment they could be talking about how simple the internet is and the next one is making fun of the fact that the other’s hair did something funny and what makes it work is that we get the joke and are laughing with these two rather than at them, or even worse just watching them laugh. The film’s strength is that as the film progresses, and so do our main characters, we care and enjoy spending this time with them.

Commercialism on the movie, was handled with taste. Musical scoring a little bit outdated.” Binibini” and “Ikaw ang Aking Mahal” were popular OPM in the 80s, yet tackling a modern day issues doesn’t jive on it. Good thing it was directed harmoniously with the progress of emotions.

What I really love on the movie? It gave me thoughts last night on what relationships can give us, what it cant and what it limits us. but most importantly, its conquering our fears on falling in love again after those failed relationships and encounters that we had.

    My FAVORITE SCENES WERE:

    1. John Lloyd cooking with passion after awhile.

    2. Angel Locsin crying scene.

    3. Edgar Allan Guzman, Boom Labrusca and Panying’s reaction and silence on sala while waiting for Mackie and Ces to finish.

    4. Publication Office. I used to chair a group back in college.

    5. All aftersex glow acting of Angel Locsin.

    MEMORABLE QUOTES from the MOVIE:

Opens nationwide. I rate the movie 8 out of 10.
