@kickass - that's a god point and that was something that we discussed about during the planning stages. It is important to note that we are only closing down own side of the street and not both sides. The other side will be used as a 2 way street.

Also, we will be allocating roughly 150 meters on each side (total of 300 meters) for parking. that should shorten the length to around 1.2 km. There will be a total of 5 entertainment areas. The middle (corner to city hall) will be the main stage where the main band will be playing. Aside from that, there will be a total of 4 entertainment areas evenly spaced throughout the event. The city hall area will host the exotic car show and the car audio exhibition which is sponsored by Y101.

Bars and food booths will line the area too. You bring up a good point, but with the help of our radio station partners (to start airing this week) we should be able to attract a sizeable crowd.

1. naay national band/artist to bring in more crowd..
2. photo contest sa festival mismo..
3. wala d.i mga tv partners sir, like abs-cbn or gma? mas effective man guro na compared sa radio..
3. magpost pko sko ubang suggestions later..

1)because it is a new event, I have a very limited budget for it. Cebu bands are the most that we can afford as of the moment.
2)we are now finalizing with the group that will handle the photo contest. There definitely will be a photo contest for the event.
3)again, because it is a new event, most are still hesitant. Even sponsors are hesitant. We are working out a deal with GMA right now. As for radio stations, DYRT and DYLS will be sponsoring an area and will be putting up their own pakulo and disco mobile setups in specific areas. Y101 will also be a media partner. All car audio exhibitions will tune in to Y101. There will also be a display of show cars within the same area as the car audio stuff.
4) Please do... I am open to all suggestions.

Rerouting for Kadaugan celebrations 4/6/2011

The stretch of road going to the Mactan Cebu International Airport from the old bridge to the new bridge will be closed starting on the eve of April 29 to give space to booths, stalls, discos and mini concerts that will be part of this year’s Kadaugan sa Mactan.

The commemoration will have an auto exhibit and “gourmet walk” on April 29, two days after the reenactment of chieftain Lapu-Lapu and his tribe’s victory over Spanish invaders led by Portuguese navigator Ferdinand Magellan.

Next week, city officials will reveal who will play Magellan, Lapu-Lapu and Reyna Bulakna.

The auto show will feature 60 “exotic cars” sponsored by the Federation of Auto Clubs in Cebu, a mobile audio exhibition and tricycle contests and booths, said Councilor Harry Radaza, vice chairman of the committee on tourism.

There will also be a “gourmet walk” participated by 10 Lapu-Lapu city hotels.

Radio Y101-FM will be in charge of the car audio show that will feature samba music that will accompany the Kadaugan Street Party.

Radaza said the street party will be limited to 20 performing contingents and mechanics for the dance will be discussed tomorrow.

Two contingents from hotels confirmed that they would join the street party.

The budget for the Kadaugan events taken from the commission of tourism amounts to P400,000 said Radaza said.

They slashed the budget for the Kadaugan sa Mactan reenactment in favor of the street party, which started this year, he said.

The car show will be free of charge and held near the City Hall and sports complex.

Traffic will be rerouted.

The car display is not a contest but a show of camaraderie, said Jonathan Ho, president of the Federation of Auto Clubs in Cebu.

The cars in the street party will come from different clubs.

Radaza said stall holders who will sell along the road need to get permits from City Hall, which will ban the consumption of liquor during the street party.

He said security will be provided by Speacial Tactics and Weapons (SWAT) teams, Unified Task Force (UTF), air force and tanods from each barangay will be augmented.

The event will start at 5 p.m. and end at 3 a.m.
