I agree with most of the recommendations. First, start with Tolkien (just to get the basic premise of 'high fantasy' genre) then progress to other books.

Robert Jordan - Wheel of Time Series
Terry Goodkind - Sword of Truth Series
Dragonlance Series (There's also a Ravenloft Series (Horror/High Fantasy) that sometimes crosses over with DL: e.g. Knight of the Black Rose and Legacy of the Black Rose books...very good collection items for those who love the Dragonlance's Lord Soth)
Forgotten Realms Series - Drizzt Saga is very good but don't neglect the other FR books. I recommend the following:
War of the Spider Queen (6 books)
    Avatar Trilogy (3 (4) books)
Demon Wars Trilogy 1 and 2
    Cleric Quintet....and a lot more..heck..tons more.

If you want a Horror/Fantasy book. I recommend Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles...but i guess this is pretty well known so there.

i'm an avid Drizzt Do'urden fan. The series has 11 books(Legend of Drizzt) + The Hunter's Blade trilogy. Then naa pa upcoming na trilogy, Transitions man tingali to.

^Bitaw, lisod ayu pangitaon iya books diri. I've read one RA Salvatorre book (one of the Dark Elf Trilogy), and fell in love with Drizzt Do'Urden. I borrowed it from a friend who bought it in the US. I'm hoping to read more. Wala sa Powerbooks?

I'm also a big Neil Gaiman fan. He's the best master storyteller, for me, by far. Must read. I recommend starting with his Sandman graphic novels. He's got children's books, too. Simply the best.

Of course, not to forget Harry Potter, LOTR, Chronicles of Narnia...etc. Artemis Fowl is a good and easy read, too, if you're the scifi-meets-the-fairies type of plot-lover. It's targeted mainly for kids. =)

A friend recommended the Eddings books, too. But haven't read it pa. Naay copies sa Powerbooks or Natio? =)

Very um, murky/muddled story (dark man gud lol) ang Dark Tower and the Gunslinger series in general. I had a hard time tying all the threads together and make overall sense of it.

Check out Frank Peretti. Part fantasy, part reality. for those who like Christian authors, his books are highly recommended. I've read This Present Darkness... really cool.
his latest book is about to be made into a movie. It's called the House...
