Make it sound serious. I did that when I was in third year college when I didn't notice it. Our Dean called my attention and asked why I had it. I just simply said those words and of course, she didn't believe it but when I told her:

"I thought you said that everyone should not be judged because of cultural differences? Why judge me when I say I got bit by a vampire?"

She just smiled and said, "Never again, okay?"

I wore glasses, I wore my serious face on and succeeded. It's all in the delivery.
