The Thai Army chief who has declared himself Prime Minister said that civilian authority will be restored soon.
Maybe what he meant was that he would vacate his post as the Army Chief so that his rule will be considered as civilian in nature. Hehehe, but it would still be a perfect picture of a power grab.
Ahh OT, going back to the thread, this is another lost for the Thai's because this will impact to their economy, political stability and then it will lead for lost of confidence for the investors then thai's economy will fall and leads to unemplyment and then poverty then civil war (if possible).. I would say this scenario would happen to us if we will allow the leftist, NPA's and the opposition to destroy the Philippines and the Filipino dream.
^^
Exactly.
Fortunately though, an economist said that the fall of the Thai baht and its stock market would not create a domino effect like what happened in 1997, which actually started the Asian Financial Crises because as what he said, "things have changed now.."
I hope so.

^Naku naman. I do really hope this would not affect the Philippine currency. The peso is now stepping up for the benefit of the economy.
In many instances, we have proven that military takeover only bring more chaos rather than order.
it wud shortly not affect the philippines bec. thailand is not very important to our economy!!!
here's an update regarding our kababayans in Thailand:

Filipinos in Thailand 'all safe', envoy assures (10 a.m.)
MANILA -- Philippine Ambassador to Thailand Antonio Rodriguez on Tuesday advised Filipinos in the Southeast Asian country to stay indoors after the Thai military launched a coup while Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra was in New York.
Rodriguez however said it was "business as usual" in Bangkok despite the coup.
He also said no Filipino has called him for assistance. There are 7,000 Filipinos in Thailand, most of whom are working as teachers.
He announced the telephone numbers of the Philippine embassy in Bangkok which Filipinos can call to inquire about their relatives in Thailand. The numbers are 662-2590139, 662-2590140 and 662-2592809.
According to Rodriguez, broadcast news, both local and international, have been cut so that all those in Thailand get their information only from news websites.

The coup in Thailand is a clash between an arrogant prime minister and a humble monarch.
The military was just an instrument to oust the prime minister, they would not had done it without the king's blessings.
