... you're lucky to have those novels. I'm looking for them right now, you guys know where. ssshhh, hehe.
..anyway, what's up with the mask?? It is present in all the gundam series, there's always this character who wears a mask, how comeI also admit that i don't particularly like the G Gundam series, if not for it's storyline it would suck big time. But my fave unit would be Strike Freedom, it's fire power is damn awesome.
[font=arial][b]^^perhaps simply its just trademark Gundam... its not really a Gundam series if not one on the primary antagonists wears a mask. The Masked Antagonist could just be a trademark as the rest as much as the Moogle or the Chocobo is for the Final Fantasy series.
That's just what I think since there are many plot similarities that set the Gundam series apart from the other Mecha out there... like there should by a worldwide war in space as stage for the final battle and that through the series and in the final battle, "sikat at bida" at least 5 of the recognized Gundams in the series.
Like for example:
In Gundam G: The God/Burning Gundam, Maxter, Gundam Rose, Dragon and The Bolt (5 Gundams)
In Gundam W: Zero, Deathscythe, Shenlong, Sandrock, and Heavy Arms (5 Gundams)
In Gundam Seed: The Earth Alliance originally manufactured 5 gundam units with phase armor capability which the Zaft Forces stole save one: Blitz, Duel, Buster, Aegies and Strike. (5 Gundams)

.. that's what i noticed too. There's always this five main Gundam units in each of those series. And i agree though, that is the signature of a true gundam series. The weakest of the main heroes would be Domon and the strongest would be Heero. But damn, Kira is so cool, the way he handles the ladies, smooth and suave. hehe
Junpei, while those similarities are true, I think that it will only apply to Char/Zechs. Amuro and Heero are too opposite in my opinion.
fingolfin, I also am looking for those novels. The only clues I have to the storyline is what I can read in wikipedia and mecha forums...
diem, I think the 5 main Gundam angle started with Wing Gundam. I didn't see that when I watched the classic stories though (0087, Zeta, ZZ, Victory) and some of the newer ones (turn A). 0083 technically has 4 Gundams which is 1 short of the 5 Gundam deal: (GP01, GP02, GP03, and Gerbera Tetra [this started out as a Gundam but it was sold to the Zeon and converted into a mono-eye MS. Tetra means 4]
Cheers!
hmmm... I would have to respectfully disagree with 5 Gundams as a mark of a true Gundam series. For me, if the story is set in the Universal Century, that marks a true Gundam series since that's the timeline which started this whole Gundam craze back in the late 70s.
Cheers!
..oh ok. Talking about timelines... are each series independent or a continuation of a very long timeline??
..i can't find any gundam novels in torrent. damn. hehehe.
yeah but the facts break it all:Originally Posted by jumps_zilla

-and char/zechs are blonde and made a comeback after declared KIA in those metaseries sequels. endless waltz for zechs and zeta for char.
anyhooos, just stating some facts. just similarities that are too darn obvious.

I got the chance to see some of the scans way back '99 when my friend showed it to me. I recently remembered that novel when I saw a scale model of it as I was passing by some hobby shop in uptown.
regarding your query on timelines, this might help (the only thing in english I could find)
http://www.gundamofficial.com/featur...fo.html#worlds
anyways,
from the graphic novel Gundam Sentinel
Ex-S Gundam minus G-cruiser (can't find pics with G-cruiser.I'm not sure if it was even called g-cruiser. nindot baaah? hehe)
... nindot?? that's a freaking one-suit-army. hehehe. i wonder why they didn't had it on anime. This Superior Gundam kicks-arrse. hehe
Hmmm... let's see. I think there are several non-related timelines:Originally Posted by fingolfin

AC - After Colony is for Gundam Wing
AW - After War is Gundam X
CE - Cosmic Era (?) for Gundam Seed/Destiny
FC - Future Century is for G Gundam
CC - Correct Calendar (Seireki) for Turn A Gundam
SD Gundam World is the timeline for, well SD Gundam. ;D
This is by no means the complete list. It's only what I can remember off the top of my head.
There are some Gundam series that make reference to other timelines which is a fun thing. For example, some UC gundams such as ones from Mobile Suit Gundam, Zeta Gundam, Gundam 0083, Gundam F91, and Crossbone Gundam (manga series) made a cameo appearance in G Gundam. The Wing Gundam made its FIRST appearance here too (!) (you can check wikipedia for this ^_^)
** The Wing Gundam series did not air in Japan until after G Gundam. Another thing to note is that Zambot 3 and Daitarn 3 made cameo appearances too.
