    ACID REFLUX-CAUSES OR REASONS

When we eat food as a part of normal digestion the food chewed is passed on via the food pipe or esophagus to the stomach for further digestion aided by the acidic juices present in the stomach. These juices are not supposed to be in the esophagus but in the stomach which is meant to handle these juices for digestion of food.

Avoid Food and Beverages That Cause ACID REFLUX, Change Your Lifestyle
The lack of food makes people hungry. If the food intake do not contain the right amount of vitamins, minerals etc. sufficient to make the body strong and healthy, children could become malnourished.

There are HEALTHY FOODS items. And then there are junk foods too. Junk stands for waste. But they are tasty and so people opt for them a lot.

You will be asked to avoid certain food items if you are diagnosed with certain medical conditions. A patient with acid reflux has to do the same as well. GERD, commonly known as ACID REFLUX CAUSES by the acidic stomach fluids traveling upwards in to the esophagus as a result of the improper functioning of lower esophageal sphincter. If acid reflux is not TREATED PROPERLY, you could be looking at serious complications. Various kinds of food to be avoided to keep acid reflux at bay.

The symptoms of acid reflux are sour taste, burning sensation in the chest or upper abdomen or on your throat's back, excessive belching, breathing problems, throat congestion, difficulty in swallowing food and bad breath.

If you suffer from these symptoms then the chances are that you have acid reflux. Check with a doctor to get a correct diagnosis and to know the severity of the problem.

The following food items are known to cause acid reflux:

    - chocolate
    - coffee
    - spearmint and peppermint
    - alcoholic drinks
    - fruit juices
    - fatty foods and fried foods
    - onions
    - citrus fruits
    - spicy foods
    - tomato-based products
    - caffeinated drinks

The best method to tackle acid reflux is to change your diet or avoid certain food items. You are going to miss these foods in the starting, but you have to think of the future with SEVERE ACID REFLUX if you continue to eat all these food items

Keep track of your food by making a record of it. In this way you will notice the increase and decrease in acid reflux followed by each food. Whenever the burning sensation increases check and note down the culprit food. Put up the list on a visible place like your refrigerator.

It is really hard to change your food causing acid reflux. Your doctor will be able to help you in easing this problem. You need to start eating small portions of meal instead of heavy meals. Avoid eating the above listed food items. You need to stop smoking and drinking as soon as possible. None of this is going to happen over night. You have to do it slowly.

Each instance of acid reflux will remind you that you have to get away from the food you have eaten just before. Achieving self discipline is a very hard thing to do, but you have to do it for your own sake.

There are people who take antacids and people who go the NATURAL WAY. Antacids will have their side effects for your stomach and other parts of your body. The natural way would be better. And as soon as you can change your life style the better it would be.

A healthy life style is beneficial for your over all body in ways other than relief from acid reflux. You will be safe from other diseases too. Healthy eating habits like eating the right food at the right amount will keep you healthy and keep acid reflux away. Now you know which food causes acid reflux and how to avoid them.

Recreate a healthy lifestyle that includes EATING HEALTHY FOODS quit smoking ,exercises etc. Please note smoking can aggravate the condition of GERD as it further relaxes the LES muscles thus causing leakage of acidic juices from the stomach to the esophagus.
Watch what you wear i.e. wear loose clothing's as tight fitting clothes can put extra pressure on the stomach to release the juices towards the esophagus.
Control your body weight- An overweight person puts more pressure on the stomach and causes irritation and acid reflux.
    Control stress

A lot has been already told about stress and it's unhealthy consequences. Stress can also make you prone to GERD. In this case when we are in stress our body tries to protect us by pumping more blood to our muscles to fight stress related fatigue and provide extra energy to fight a possible attack.

However, this leads to decrease in the blood that is pumped for digestion. As a result the secretion of digestive enzymes slows down thereby slowing down the passage of food to various digestive tracts. This results in heartburn or ACID REFLUX ATTACK or gastro esophageal reflux disease. Heartburn is the pain felt in the centre of the chest cavity caused by the flow of the acid back from the stomach to the esophagus.

Exercise exercise exercise. exercise at least 4 times a week will boost up your energy levels and also enable you to sleep well.
Meditation helps in relaxing our mind body and soul. few minutes of deep breathing, YOGA are few of the ways to achieve relaxation in an excellent way.
Join laughter club-another enjoyable way to keep stress at bay.
Create an organized routine. Take the help of near and dear ones and create list as per priority of the things you need to do in a day.
    Eat right and well-

Following good and healthy eating habit plays a significant role in avoiding heartburn. This means we need to watch what we eat and also how we eat.

Following pointers can help in achieving this goal-
Have six small meals .Generally we eat 3 meals a day but fill our stomach so much that the contents get forced to reach back the esophagus. Eating small meals will help the stomach to relax and the LES to tighten itself properly to avoid the reflux.

Have a gap of at least 2 to 3 hours between your meals and the time you lie down. because if you lie down right after having food ,the acids working for the digestion of the food in the stomach may easily flow back to the esophagus causing heartburn. Also avoid snacking before sleeping.
Maintain a list of food that you find difficult to digest and may aggravate the symptoms of GERD. when you eat remember those drinks and FOOD THAT MAY TRIGGER HURTBURN in you and avoid them.
Eat candies; Sucking candies enhances the production of saliva which in turn neutralizes the effect of acid. Keep in mind though not to consume the mint based ones as they may stimulate the acid reflux.
    Tips to sleep well-

    HURTBURN may happen even when you least expect it that is during sleep, if conscious efforts are not taken to follow these tips to avoid the flowing back off the acid from stomach to the esophagus;
Place a foam wedge under your torso or increase the height of the head of the bed by 6 inches will help to maintain the gravity towards the stomach thus prevent the flow of acid backwards to the esophagus.
