kung kahinumdum siguro ta, back in the late 80's/early 90's, naa tong brand na Daihatsu..top seller kaayo to nila ang Feroza.

Ahem, ahem I would like to give clarity to this thread para to minimize misconceptions about the KIA brand.I am not speaking in behalf of our group the Kia Pride Club Cebu Chapter but as a daily user of this kind of car brand but ako lang pud isingit why we chose KIA.Also thanks to bro edison for opening up this thread, I was reading through each post and I'm glad that cebuanos are already pretty much knowledgeable about cars in different aspects, let say some may still need to be aware but who cares everybody is entitled to his/her own opinion.

Lets start to give audiences some Vehicle 101 about Kia:

    1. KIA Motors

It started way back in south korea before the pre War era they were manufacturing bicycles under a different name then evolve to a full line of vehicles on the present day. They had a partnership before with Ford Motor Co. wherein Ford was outbidded by Hyundai during the 1997 Asian crisis so pretty much Hyundai owned less than 40% of Kia, this was the time when Kia was affected w/c had debts over billions that needs to be bailed out like what happened to the Big 3 car manufacturers in the US nowadways. So this explains so much of a brief background sa KIA.

    2. Kia Pride - " labeled on this thread as one of the reasons why KIA had earned a bad reputation"

Clarification: not all kia pride taxi's here in the philippines were surplus meaning the Kia pride was sold here in different variants locally thru gateway motors. When it was introduced in Korea during 1987 it was accepted in other Asian countries, also by that time Filipino's ventured in selling korean surplus as counterpart of the japanese surplus invasion.
Say for example year 1997 a kia pride sedan was worth approx. 230T brand new. This car was in the industry from 1987 until 2000, the latest generation was now marketed here as the Rio different style and design but still under the subcompact category sedans like the kia pride. If you go to Korea the Rio here locally is sold a " New Pride" there w/c has newer look euro inspired car.

Don't you think its ironic? that its because this car was made into a taxi it receives all the blame? say for example some of the bigggest taxi operators here in like Citrasco,HR,etc..., they bought before more than a hundred units of the kia pride way back in the mid 90's. If this car sucks, this would have not been one of the choice of this businessmen. One good reason is the aftersales like maintenance parts for this car is very much affordable compared to other brands.Come to think of it a taxi runs almost every hour the whole day, tendency wear and tear w/c lead to maintenance w/c leads them as their unit of choice. There is a big difference for a private owner w/c goes to office-home or vice versa.

Also until now why is that majority of the auto supplies still sells brand new genuine parts and replacement aftermarket parts? try to stroll along leon kilat st. or borromeo in downtown,or in mandaue auto parts suppliers,or even small auto part enterpeneurs. Its easy, law of supply and demand right, majority of the kia pride vehicles are still running on the streets even though its roots came from late 80's till 2000,so more or less the car already ages 10 -20+ years old....but due to its availability in spare parts many users rely on this car, in the end suppliers, manufacturers are still doing good business. Also in Iran the Kia Pride is rebranded as the Nasim still in production nowadays, the looks inside and out are pretty much the same.

During the time when Kia had partnerships with Ford, the Kia Pride was the one of the candidates of rebadge engineering. The pride was derived from Ford's concept then design or engineered by Mazda(w/c is a Ford subsidiary) and Manufacturing was done by Kia in Korea. Rebadge engineering is one initiative of manufacturers to save cost in building mold & die, optimize features, diversify design wherein creating a worst case vehicle platform. The things that differs are from each variant and market to w/c the cars are shipped for Sales. The Kia Pride was marketed to target the Asian market including Philippines, while the Ford Festiva was sold to North American and Australian markets w/c comes up with LHD,RHD,M or AT variants.
Also the Kia Avella was a rebadge vehcile to its counterpart as the Ford Aspire in the US, except the avella was not sold here

    3. Kia Pride taxi's - " sold to owners for private use"

Some may say that this could be the one of the contributing reason why the bad branding of KIA or for this car specifically, of course since its an ex-taxi the parts of that unit are already worn overtime.Strategically sellers just have it tuned up and running w/out replacing new gaskets, bearing, underchassis parts,etc..., for short you just bought yourself a new blowby engine! this could be one factor I suppose, so it would end up the new owner is not happy thus concludes their sentiments about this car and KIA generally.

    4. As also mentioned " there is even a Kia pride club here in the philippines"
Here are some insights why a club exist like our group:

a.Primary purpose of a vehicle or car? to transport a human being and materials from Point A to Point B or vice versa or to other points.
All vehicle brands can do perform that right? the kia pride can also do it.
    b. Less maintenance cost
    c. Cheap brand new aftermarket parts and genuine parts, 85% of its parts commodity are sold brand new and replacements excluding the engine block, transmission & sheetmetal body, Lots of surplus parts here in cebu and of course the ever reilable banawe in manila.
    d. Easy to maintain and very practical
    e. Fuel Economy
    f. Engine is in the B family (B1 & B3), options can be Japan mazda engines Z5(mazda 323)B5,B6,BP,BPT,BPD,etc..w/ some small modifications
    g. hatchback variant or the CD5 is a good candidate for Racing (autocross,slalom,drag,etc..)
    h. feasible for car shows, see our thread here istorya including the 2nd InterAuto CLub meet
    i. cheap local used or surplus units in the used car market
    j. many more,.........

    5. If some had remembered during the late Cory Aquino's time she even mentioned that the Kia Pride was the peoples car during that time .See flashback image below.....aminin kadtong mga ka relate...God I miss the 80's !

And the specific portion that stated "...Cory loved the Kia CD5"

    6. Different opinions from people, especially bad opinions............

Well we can't make everyone happy , some may say their just defensive because they have a club or they own those kia pride's....
One thing I observed is that this bad feedbacks usually came from men and women who are illeterate about cars, the typical Juan or Maria that doesn't even open up the hood of the car to check if the engine is still there or even learn how to change a spare tire very basic or don't know what a displacement of his/her engine...here are some true to life experiences.....

    a. My mom told our tenants we will be picking them up for my son's bday party, the woman said what's youre son's car? my mom told her its a Kia, this is what she said :" ah Kia , bati man na uy! nindot unta tong "#$%%^^" maoy gipalit sa imo anak?" sounds familiar my friends? but when we got there when she rode my car, she said: "Uy kabugnaw, pahinayi lang gamay ang aircon beh", hehe...but its true just being funny guys....but to come to think of it the feedback came from a person who doens't even know how to drive and just got that idea on the fly....could be bad propaganda, refer to no. 3....

    b. Someone told me, bai kadto lagi Kia pride bago napalit 2nd hand amo nasakyan sa ako officemate saba lagi kaayo underchassis....I just throw him a simple question? unsay plate no? he told me YH_ _ _ _...probably its an ex taxi or a surplus unit....during its time market most local units were under G for Region 7,....tendency his officemate haven't diagnose all the problems yet and just drive all along...

    c. Brod, nakapalit ko kia pride 30k....ok paman itsura bai, pero mu aso na lagi ug puti....including the dipstick chamber! Simple its time for an overhaul brod blowby na imo engine or if you want ilis ka makina kugn as ka maka save...So far, after the overhaul and had it repainted suddenly all his friends came gossiping "mahala gud gasto nimo bai?" palit paka ug %%^**** nga auto choy pa kaayo....sounds familiar again? the guy who made that comment doesn't even know what an engine overhaul is all about....there are many aspects especially when it involves machining cost.....try to ask engine rebuilders here in cebu....standard na ila mga prices....

    7. Filipinos are brand conscious during the time wherein Kia was still on the low ranks even until now branded gihapon(except for pirated dvds).....KIA in the minds of the people from the past was just a newbie crap brand trying hard to market in branded conscious pinoys.

Example1: Kung imo neighbor naay orig Levis 501, ikaw pud papalit ka ug levis...kay wala man enough money si ermats aw mubalibad gyud....for short nangita ug paagi, nangayo ug enough kwarta didto sa Jeman's Clothier nagpatahi ug maong, gipapitlan lang ug etikita sa levis para ingnon orig...hehe...adto ra diay sa zipper dag-on....YKK? seems familiar?hehe

Example2: ang imo neighbor ug bago nga awto sinaw kaayo, power windows, power lock, power steering, automatic, leather seats etc...bugnaw kaayo aircon.....sige ug trapo taga adlaw kay mahugaw...."Aw si pare dili pud palupig ingon gud ni Mare :dear palit ta ug car ha kanang &%^$ ayaw ng Kia kay dali maguba, in short nipalit pud brand new choy kaayo!....pero naputos ug utang kay bayad man ug 15T taga buwan for 5 years para ma impas sa awto.....bahala na basta choi ug sugyut ni Mrs.? "Naa gud latest nga car model...

So where is KIA nowadays? have you ever wondered way back before when Samsung was still starting?
Look at this Korean brands nowadays.Who won the fuel mileage test was it Hyundai I10?

As of karon there the Chinese automakers are invading the market, soon lets talk again dire for more forward years diba possible napud ang topic nganong i-discriminate man ang Chery or Chana or Geely? and also during this time their prices are almost the same na with the leading automakers presently. Look at what happen to the Big 3 , ang GM naunsa na? selling out their carlines...hehe....if Ford have not make a move 2 years ago they could have been undegoing Chapter 11, they already knew that this Surge of REcession will happen.....

    8. As for us Kia pride users some of us have problems man with our car like taya w/c needs body repair, overhaul status ang engine due to overuse kay previous owners havent change oil for more than year, naay tulo ang flooring,etc..etc...there are many conditions w/c car onwers are suffering since they acquire it 2nd hand or originally bought it way back before take note this kia pride variant is not anymore in production but one factor gyud among gi-agree that this car is not crap due to its fuel efficiency that is why we still challenge others if their brand new cars has economical fuel ratio compared to a "good condition kia pride" running on our streets. That marketing bulls%^&t from car dealers saying this and that are just pure sales talk, what matter's most is how your engine responds well in any given condition. This is the main reason why people still drive this car variant just take a survey mag pips using practicality, performance and ecomony as your basis. Looks, aesthetics and accessories are hard to judge ,its like comparing a guava to an apple.

    9. For newly design KIA's like what bro edison is driving of course KIA have greatly improved in terms of innovation and competition. The price itself speaks , the technology w/c was greatly influence by their shared merger Hyundai makes them more vibrant in the auto industry.Look at the surplus sportage w/c has a mazda R2 engine compared to the latestone using CRDi technology has vast greatly improved. The Sorrento has great looks and luxuriously stunning while the Carens has the crossover functionality. Many KIA cars needs to have some reviews could be positive and negative, its just shows that they never stop in improving.

Market value is not a priority if youre not into selling used cars, why would you sell it if it fits your lifestyle and comensurates youre financial status basta you just follow maintenance schedules you could live with you car bisan na naka grandchildren. That is why I salute people who takes care of their car nga well preserve and maintain sa ilang panimalay or garahe, it means they consider it part of their lives.

    Amen.

Those mentioned above are very familiar scenarios Bro Edison and I guess you heard most of this from other people....so ayaw lang ug kabalaka the very big difference is you have a Latest model Sportage sila wala, you love your kia vehicle sila walay Kia!

We invited you to the group before I hope dili maoy reason nga wala ka mutunga sa amo EB kay mga Kia Pride imo kauban kay mao ra ba kunoy reason nganong bad reputation ang Kia as per post here in istorya,hehe...Joke lang!

But far from what was explained by our cager brothers/sis here in istorya it only means one thing the car brand isn't all that matters what is more important is the driver who use it by following traffic rules and sets a good example to other drivers on the road.

Question: Did you find any Sportage club yet?

We are open for Kia Club here in Cebu as it is hard to find it at tsikot.com except the Kia Pride Club w/c already existed long before.

We are not forcing you to create one but we do highly encourage it for benefits are earned through friendships.

So hopefully Kia owner's can make it happen.

thank you and Good day to all! (mao ni reason sa way lingaw, murag novel)
