ok now this is weird. just now my 4850 shut down because it apparently overheated at 50C. isn't that cool enough for a 4850? my idling temp is 42C, goes to 50C when i play Aion. i read in some forums that their 4850 even reaches 100C. how come i overheat at 50C? O_O

EDIT: I did a stability/stress test using FurMark with the current microsoft driver and everything went well. Max temp was 60C and it never shut down, so i guess it was some driver/Catalyst Control issues.

here are the results of my stress test:

Looking good imo. Nevertheless im considering on trading this to a GTS 250 since the heatsink is so HUGE it covers my SATA ports. Im using 1 HDD atm since only 1 SATA slot is available and the others covered by the 4850.

Fern, have you tried a BIOS update on your motherboard? Your mobo manufacturer may have a new BIOS version that can resolve that problem. Also, what Catalyst version are you using?

@fern: this really is the same problem i had with i reviewed the EAH4770. come to think of it, we almost share the same setting; gigabyte motherboard and EAH4770

anyway, the 4770 doesn't require that much power, drawing only 85 watts. think of it this way, the PCIE slot provides up to 75 watts of power and the remaining requirement is taken from the PCIE power connector so its really not demanding. i beleive that this is an issue coming from the motherboard.
