President Obama will be giving a speech addressed to America's students, emphasizing the value of education and why it is essential in any person's life.

The students who are contemplating on dropping out of school just for the sake of showbiz should watch out for that speech. I'm sure there is something valuable to learn from it.

As for parents who view education more as an expense than a priority, they should watch out for the speech too. They have to set examples, especially if they have children who dream of sacrificing their education just for the sake of showbiz, instant wealth and comfort.

Is it right for Cebu's students to drop out of school just for the sake of entertainment? Absolutely not.

I totally disagree with you. I know that cebu has the best dancers in the world, in fact, we even have the world renowned Dancing Prisoners and just got the Guinness World Record... What I didn't disagree though are the sample videos that you attached. I mean this guys really S*CKed....

    "world-class dancers"
    "best in the world"

Words like those require undeniable achievements and success, not to mention exceptional quality and artistry.

Having the most dancers dance to get the Guinness record is one thing, but quantity does not justify the best of quality and art.

Any local performer who wants people to believe that he/she is the best in the world needs to compete with others from other parts of the globe - and win over them. Only then can he/she brag about being the world's best.

The big problem is that some people tend to misuse and abuse terms to make them look great. "world class" is a misused word some times, similar to the word "masa".

The words "best" and "world-class" are so overused and most of the time misused. We also have to see entertainers from the other countries para ma compare sila

I sent to the paper my reply and they printed it 3 days later.

My reply said it clearly: Catsteven Betonio, the die-hard Catholic man, does not know what it is like to be a woman and he has no respect for others.

And some time ago, he entered these forums and attacked our lovely Cebuano talents for immorality.

What a poor loser. Whoever this Catsteven Betonio is (his name sound the same pa naman on one of my favorite artist), i think that he is simply gay... Maybe he wished that he(or she) was born a woman so he could wear a bikini. And the fact that he is saying that people are atheist? I mean, i am atheist....

This is not the way for Cebu to build up a world-class entertainment industry. I prefer showbiz to be godless and free of religious influence.

There is nothing immoral about entertaining others. The notable Cebuano variety shows - Singgit Cebu (cancelled by GMA Cebu and followed by a court case), Oi! Show Nato Ni and Sabado Na Gyud - are all great shows in my opinion. Oh yes, did you watch yesterday's GMA Kapuso show at the Ayala Center? Those entertainers were great!

How can we make a world class showbiz industry? We must support them by attending shows, donating money to local indie filmmakers, push Bigfoot in Mactan to invest more money to local films, watch exclusively Cebuano-language variety shows on TV, attend BisRock concerts, watch local comedians at comedy shows, and more.
With your passion, you sure act and express yourself blindly.

"Our island is rich with thousands of world-class dancers, some singers, a few actors, and more."

Where's the proof to justify calling talents "world-class"? Did they prove something great on the global stage? Did they even compete with their rivals overseas? Hello!!!

If locals are to support local entertainers, it would require more than just the blind boasting you've been making.

Come to think of it, I doubt there are enough people (spectators and consumers) who would be interested to give the struggling entertainers the support.

Besides, giving too much support to them entertainers can spoil them as well.

As for very young people among the entertainers - it's best for them to go back to school and finish.

Showbiz should not be a person's full-time job. There is more to education than showbiz glitter.

Those videos prove that those dancers are not worth watching.

Ritchie, you don't even know the meaning of "world-class".

How about the other readers here? Did those videos impress you?

Bro you are being too harsh on the TS. But I do agree local entertainers has to up their game to get serious support. My gripe in particular is on the local Cebuano Music rock, alt-rock bands. We all know they can do better

Check out this video, filmed by IAFT here in Cebu. Nice cinematography.

Tell me. Is this the way to develop "world class" entertainment involving locals?
