here is quick info i can give:
ex: Boat/Ships
Super Ferry: engine runs @ 20k rpm
Fast craft: engine runs @ 20k rpm
which of these two engine runs faster? well it depends on the design and structure

your choices: its not on the gig, its on the design.. look closely.
intel 630 (3.0) 3.0ghz is intels speed.
Amd 64 3200+ (2.0) 2.0 for amd. but? the codename 3200+ significe its comparison (3.2 for intel). meaning the 2.0ghz for amd is equivalent to intel 3.2ghz (according to some benchmark results, but u can find out yourself. )

I have both platforms and I prefer my P4 more than my A64... multitasking is much much smoother... and yes, they both have 1GB of RAM.

i'd consider all the options stated in this thread, but given the pace of both cpu leaders in developing/introducing new technologies, i'd choose a more practical route. my decision would rely heavily on re-sale value. "value for my buck". try ebay, check prices of used amd systems with specs comparable with the ones stated on the benchmarks and compare them with prices of used intel systems. so far, intel dominates that category hands down. intel system owners at this very moment can sell their machines at a very good price thus enabling them to buy the next "hot" item with the best "re-sale value". i change systems often that's why "re-sale value" is very important to me.

OT: this is the same exact philosophy to take into consideration in buying cars, re-sale value. practical car owners keep their cars for about 4-5 yrs that's why they buy cars with good re-sale value. i rest my case..

mahala sad sa x2 uy pero makalaway.kanus a mani mag 50% discount? ahehehe mura sanina. bitaw intel is multi tasking and graphic applications but for gaming amd nlang bay kay mura na ug (going to colon from your house: intel,sakay ka jeep amd,teleportation kuno) ambot tinoudba kaha ni pero too nlang ko kay bench mark sa games ok man

if you want multitasking, then go for dual cores... para multitasking gyud na sila. bisan pa mag virus scan ka unya nag-open kag other applications.

mahal sad kaayo... toink! ok ra man ang athlon64 939... then you can upgrade to dual core later, kung ma-mainstream na ang mga dual cores... and mas barato na sila.
