Under the barrel of a gun? Kita diay ka bai? or imo na lang sad ning mga pangagpas, wala lang ba magtin-away lang ta kay liusd kaayo puor lang ta pangagpas. Aw kung tinuod nga under the barrel of thier guns then, ila sd na. Naa man gani diha sa Bulacao dapit st. The police signed an agreement with the army to join the fight against insurgency.

I agree with you hala tindak. The NPA problem had its root causes and these causes should be addressed if the government is really sincere in ending the insurgency.

People who are in their comfort zone think that issues of injustice and oppression are just propaganda of the leftist groups. Let them try to live in the countryside ans see for themeselves a ringside seat of the injustice committed by the ruling elite against the poor people of that side of our land.

i agree with people here who are saying that a war in poverty should be the most immediate campaign the government and this country should take... terrorism after all is not merely confined on the slaughter of people by bullets or bombs but also of deprivation of people's basic rights and peaceful liveing... and poverty above all hinders this nation just to have that. after all, peace is not only on the absence of war but in the presence of love, justice and freedom.

Marines overrun another Sayyaf training camp

ZAMBOANGA CITY — Marines and Army Scout Rangers seized a forward base of the Abu Sayyaf and Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) following a series of skirmishes over the weekend in the jungles of Patikul, Sulu.

Lt. Col. Susthenes Valcorza, Armed Forces Southern Command spokesman, said two Scout Rangers and six Abu Sayyaf terrorists were killed in fierce fighting to capture the rebel camp at Mt. Sinumaan in Patikul.

Twenty-one Scout Rangers and four Marines were wounded in the skirmish, he added.

Valcorza said the Marines and Scout Rangers took the camp after two hours of fighting that forced the terrorists to escape, dragging along their casualties.

The camp has two fortified dug-in bunkers and running trenches that can accommodate 30 people, he added.

Troops recovered from the scene 14 exploded 60-mm. mortars and 57-mm, 7.62-mm, and M-60 machine-gun shells, Valcorza said.

The military has been pursuing the Abu Sayyaf rebels who are believed to be securing their chieftain Khadaffi Janjalani and two JI militants, Dulmatin and Umar Patek, who are wanted for the Bali bombing in Indonesia in October 2002.

The security dragnet and naval blockade around Sulu have prevented Janjalani and his two JI cohorts from escaping, the military said. — Roel Pareño

Central Luzon now free from communist influence—Palparan

FORT RAMON MAGSAYSAY, Palayan City: The drive on the communist insurgents in Nueva Ecija and other Central Luzon provinces is paying off, with Maj. Gen. Jovito Palparan now saying that these areas are 90- to 95-percent free of the rebel influence.

Palparan, commander of the 7th Infantry Division based here, led a big anti-insurgency rally in Pampanga on Sunday where he said the towns of Cuyapo, Lupao and Guimba, all in Nueva Ecija, are cleared of communists insurgents.
Palparan, who retires on September 11, has earned the monicker, “The Butcher,” for his hardline policy against therebels and their sympathizers.

His statement came on the heels of the assurance of the high command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines that the military is winning in the war on the insurgency.

Palparan also said that the presence of armed guerrillas, as well as their influence, in Pampanga, Tarlac and Bulacan has declined by as much as 95 percent.

Palparan has been criticized by militant groups for requiring residents to acquire and carry community-tax certificate, or cedula.

His command was also blamed for the abduction and summary execution of some militant leaders in the province, which Palparan has denied.

Palparan told the media that he initially wanted a simultaneous campaign against the insurgency in all places in his area of responsibility but had to do it one at a time due to shortage of troops.

Palparan has met with officials and residents of rebel-influenced villages to support the government’s counterinsurgency campaign.
