What? The least you could do is show compassion. You could have at least pray that tragedies and calamities will spare the people. or help the victims in your own small way. LIVE what you preach maybe then the people will see and know what good news you are talking about..

A lot of churches and denominations do voluntary work to help the poor. So do not judge a church or denomination if they are giving to the poor or not.
Giving may even not signify that you are good up to the standards of God.
Giving is not the only way to attain salvation. Even good works cannot save you.
A lot of politicians do this when election is near.
Don't think we do not know or not practice what we preach. We have a lot of churches and denominations who give to the poor it may not be well announced like how the politician does it.

Giving to the poor is one of our teachings.
further more giving is a matter of personal task not a public one. It is only God who rewards people who gives secretly and those who give publicly already have their reward and may even be called hypocrites.

Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.
