Garcia who arrived this morning as the media had a tour and briefing on the actual progress of the CICC construction said "we are pushing ourselves to the limits" to finish the CICC right on schedule and we will deliver as what the President expects, the governor promised.

The President did not choose Cebu for the Asean venue because of the infrastructure as Cebu cannot compete with Manila in terms of infrastructure. President Arroyo selected Cebu because she entirely believes in the Cebuanos and we should not fail her, according to Garcia.

The governor told the press that pictures taken today ought to be published the next day as not to mislead the public that the construction of the P450-M CICC will not be completed on time.

    CICC on track, ‘90% done’

A WEEKLY media tour will be held at the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) to keep the public updated of the development of the building’s construction, said Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia.

Yesterday, Garcia and Architect Manuel Guanzon gave the media a tour and briefing of the CICC, which they said is already 90 percent complete.

It already has stairs and the roofing is complete except for the glass roof at the center of the building.

It has yet to have an exterior wall, interiors and partitions but Guanzon assured that the walls will not take time because they are using composite panels instead of hollow blocks.

Guanzon said 750 workers are working on two shifts, 400 in the daytime and more than 300 in the evenings.

The whole CICC has a total floor area of 25,000 square meters. It has a plenary hall, media center, rooms for the secretariat of each participant and an exhibition hall.

Guanzon said the exhibition hall at the lower ground floor will be used as parking area for VIPs.

The air-conditioning system has been delivered and will be installed soon. The elevator units were expected to arrive yesterday.

The International Media Center at the second floor will be available by Oct. 30 and different media outlets may start putting up their equipment.

The site development and landscaping is almost through, with ornamental plants already planted except for the sampaguita flowers, which are still being propagated.

Guanzon said the CICC used some 2.8 million kilograms of steel, delivered in July. That is why the operation started full blast only in August.

If only they did not have problems in the delivery of the steel, Guanzon said, the facility would have been finished by now.

Guanzon and Garcia reiterated their assurance that the facility will be finished in time for the summit.
