this is not the first time naa queues like this. this happened sometime early 1970 during marcos time. malas kau ta atong panahona ky we had poor weather, pest infestation, and flooding in Central Luzon.

and if u still remember, in 1995, hundreds of people also queued for imported rice sold at government-subsidized prices. Each person was allowed to buy only up to three kilograms of the staple at Bigasang Bayan outlets.

and about brown rice, maau unta dili ni mumahal ug au ky more nutritious man kha as compared to white rice.

    ---ooo---

The pic below is today's banner of GMANews.TV Microsite. If u all look closer and read the Gabriela placards held by the lady in the picture, it says,

"Krisis sa Bigas Resolbahin. Gloria Patalsikin." WOW! Resolbahin by patalsikin? katawa ko ani dah.

"Presyo ng Bigas Kontrolin. Pinoy Rice Paunlarin, Tangkilikin." Kontrolin ang price? unsa Marcos?

"Gutom ang Masa kay Gloria. Patalsikin ngayon na." patalsikin ky gutom kno ang masa? ug karon dayon gyud? as far as i know, gutom na ang masa since the time of Marcos pa. ug dili sab magician ang presidente nga mawagtang ug kalit ang kapobre sa pinoy...

I don't agree that this is to divert attention away from NBN, Fertilizer scam, etc...

Let's put this in proper perspective.

One, this is a global problem that has a domestic effect.
Two, it's not a rice crisis but more of a rice "price" crisis.
Three, the gov't doesn't own the media.

Gov't is controlling the distribution of NFA rice only. And that is their job in the first place. if wat u mean tingali is "direct distribution". well, that is one best quick solution to rice hoarding, re-bagging, and other unscrupulous practices of NFA rice retailers.

This is not the first time we had this kind of crisis coz we had similar crises way back early 1970 (Marcos time) and 1995 (Ramos time). The only difference now is that global supply for our rice imports is shrinking and getting more expensive due to increasing high demand not only by ours but also by other countries like China and India.

And regarding the media hype, what is hot news is what you see and hear. Hot issue pa ba diay ang NBN, Fertilizer scam, Spratlys? AFAIK, it is only the opposition and critics that are forcing those issues back to mainstream media...mag buot diay cla sa ABS-CBN ug GMA kng unsay ilang ibalita?

Common sense dictates that people are bored, sick and tired of hearing the same issue over and over again. What catches people's attention are hot news, bag-o nga news (i.e. Rice crisis, VSMMC scandal, etc.). If u will notice, even istoryans here are talking more about what's hot. Gikapoy nata anang ZTE ug Lozada oi!

Even if we say, dili na kau hot issue ang ZTE, dili na pasabot nga nahunong na ang kaso or people are not monitoring updates. And Lozada et al knows and see it coming...
