Bros, need your knowledge & wisdom on this setup I have.
Proc - AMD Athlon AM2 X2 4000
Mobo - Asrock ALive NF7G-HD720p
Mem - 4GB DDR2 PC 667MHz
HDD - Seagate 160GB SATA 7200.10
Monitor - 17" Samsung CRT Syncmaster 793v
PSU - came with the ATX case so generic 500W
This setup was running with a Palit NVidia 8500GT Sonic 256MB 128bit. Pretty decent setup for playing NFS Pro Street, Colin McRae: Dirt, C&C Red Alert 3, and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. But when I installed GTA IV, patay!!! Very slow reaction na. So, time for upgrade!!! Mao ni akong plans for upgrade pero libog ko aning mga video cards.
PSU - Silverstone Strider ST-50F (P 3,650 - a must gyud)
VC - a. Inno3d NVidia 9800GTX+ 512MB DHT (PHP 6,800)or
b. Palit ATi HD4850 512MB 256bit DDR3 Sonic (PHP 7,500)
Which is the better choice? Take note of my mobo na NVidia chipset siya no I'm not really sure pa gyud if there will be compatibility issues if I install an ATi based video card.
Follow up question: Ok ra pud ning monitor nako gi gamit pag upgrade na nako sa video card?
I'd go with the Radeon HD 4850 (Red Team, WOOHOO!). Personal preferences aside, if you check the benchmarks the 4850 beats out the 9800GTX+, although the latter edges out the 4850 in Crysis. And yes, ok ra ang Radeon even if your board has an nvidia chipset, it will work just fine. GTAIV is really a poorly ported game, very CPU dependent sad. So unless you have a high end processor, you wont see 50 fps or above even on the beefier cards. magduwa ra jud iyang fps somewhere in the 30s to 40s even when patched.
BTW, mas mahal lage ang 4850? isnt the 9800GTX+ supposed to be more expensive? i could be wrong though, wa na kaau koi update sa prices hehe...

Yup bro. I was surprised about the price btaw na cheaper nang 9800GTX+ mao nang na libog kog ayo kung asa aning duha na video card akong paliton. The thing I like about the 9800GTX+ kay it's cooler.
Anyway, how about my monitor bro? Ok ra nang 17" Samsung CRT e gamit sa upscale na video card?
The main reason why I don't like to upgrade to an LCD type monitor is that there are times that children will play with the computer and they often point or hapak the screen sa sobra ka lingaw sa game. Usik ra gyud ang LCD kung ma damage that way. At least sa CRT, glass can withstand the kiddie torture. He he. . .
Naa toy pictures nakita nako sa TPC nga naai hard clear plastic cover ilang lcd, you might want to ask/research there.
id go 4850
although at really 1280x1024 resolution your better off with a 3870 which is cheaper than both, around 5k as i remember. unless you'd upgrade to something bigger. hehe
follow-up ko sa Q ni beloyski..
does the monitor also affect the output?
sample on beloyski's specs.. does it offer any difference in terms of quality when using CRT or LCD?
do u mean the operating temperature o cool as in choy?hehe...wa mai kaso ang palit. double slot and adequate ang cooling hardware niya. ang mga unang release sa 4850 single slot ra man, dali ra mu init. so i wouldnt worry about temps if palit sonic edition ang card kay di ka magproblema sa ka init.
