For napkin etiquette..during formal dinners with several courses they usually give you a large napkin and normally ppl dont open it
all the way, leaving one fold only but this is to keep the napkin from slipping (practical lang) and since its a big napkin then it covers all
your lap. when to unfold it? when the host does. host always goes first. except for buffet when you unfold when you start eating.
if its a small napkin, unfold all the way. make sure to cover your lap.
@streetcar, on the contrary...personally i think americans are not very picky and they have tried to revolutionize fine dining into casual semi-fine dining.
its the europeans i get worried about...but then again, they say..its the food and the company that counts. so i get even more worried
