hehe. we were in the same boat at one point. all i had was a bench and some dumb bells. then i realized what my end goal was. that's when i joined the gym.

we all have different goals. it isn't necessary to join a gym. my goal is aesthetics and a bulk is required. the only way to counter-act fat gains over muscle gains is completely challenging the muscles. and i wasn't going to spend money to buy extra weights. plus the gym i go to had a promo. hahaha.

here's some food for thought. when i first moved to Cebu a couple years ago i noticed [ not counting people who go to the gym/athletes ] the most toned muscular people were the people that delivered rice. it only occurred to me when i learned how to dead lift that what they are doing is exactly that - a dead lift.

even though it's 50-75 kg a bag. i can't even fathom how many reps they do per delivery. the dead lift is part of the big 3. one of the best compound lifts IMO and should be part of everyone's routine if they are trying to build muscle/burn fat.

long story short. the fact that you started is more than enough compared to others who just "say" they will start working out. you're actually doing it.

    @jaeahr

to add from this topic "kargadors"...they also grew up doing this thing! i mean, they didnt do it overnight...it has been their way of life...day to day, night after night, sometimes, even when they are sick! anyway, their genes also play a good role with their bodies (lolo cargador, papa cargador...!)

if dli ka kugihan, wala kay kan.on or your family... i greatly admire these people not just with their physiques but also their day to day life and motivation to go on while kita are just sitting comfortably in our homes!

another question, do i still need to bulk up if i'm overweight or lahos na ko cut down? lost weight (from ~200lbs to 163lbs) and seen a difference sa akong lawas but technically i'm still overweight based sa BMI. i do still get a large mass of fat just by pinching my tummy. mao tong nag full on cardio ra ko, cutting down a lot of carb. this engrained fear of carbs is really growing on me in the process kay i know i gain weight quickly. kaisa ra ko mukaon daily and no rice at all (during weekdays).

should i still continue ani and rely on my remaining body fat while nagweights to gain muscles?
pero ingon pa nila, we need to take more calories man kaha para magbuild ug muscles

Hi, we have same workout aside from crunches and push-ups. I do biking from minglanilla to ayala (vice versa) then after work I do short jog around business park. Is it okay to do this everyday?

to really disect their move...it is not just only the deadlift...its a combination of deadlifts and Olympic lifts, loaded overhead carriers, strength and speed work. for the sack of rice, they grab the sack from the starting position then do the power clean and jerk (push press) the weight overhead. sometimes, they even mimic the "snatch" and to think they dont even learn that the technical way...it is just their way of life! amazing!!!

personally i don't believe in BMI. it's just too old school and doesn't take into account muscle mass at all. don't consider yourself overweight. but consider it as you're high in body fat percentage.

a bulk is required to create muscles. in my opinion weight isn't important. but body fat percentage is. if you remember my before pictures i was 30-35% BF @ 160 lbs/72.3 kg. i've been clean bulking for almost 12 weeks now. i'm now 15-18% body fat and 175 lbs [ i dirty bulked for 2 weeks - didn't like it much ]

despite gaining weight i dropped my body fat percentage by a huge amount through muscle building. the more muscle you have the more fat you burn.

what exactly are your goals? it's a good idea to envision what you want to look like to find out what you need to do to get there.

    before:
    Feb 6 2014
    160 lbs / 73 kg
body fat: 30-35% [ maybe even more ]

picture taken with samsung phone + camera360 + hdr filter. sorry i couldn't find the original. don't pay attention to the "extra" coloring" just the muscle i created compared to my before pic. this was taken 2 days ago.

    current: 175 lbs / 80 kg
    body fat : 15-18%
    end bulking goal : 190 lbs - 200 lbs / 86 kg - 91 kg

    end goals:
    weight : 155-160 lbs / 70 kg - 73 kg
    body fat : 8-10%

this is what my end goal should look like if done properly. despite being "160 lbs" he's 6-8% body fat.
which means 150 lbs or so of that is muscle. i don't even think he's flexing. which is the look i'm going for and what i've envisioned for myself. i <3 aesthetics. to sculpt such "art" you need to do a bulk and cut cycle.

sir @silahis find out what you want to do with your body first. it isn't always necessary to bulk. it really depends on your goals. but if you're truly trying to create muscle and burn fat. a bulk is required for some great results.
