IRO Updates

1. Update on SEC Registration:
Together with a volunteer's help we have been typing out the application patiently with a manual typewriter. Our goal is to file the application no later than Friday. Once the application has been approved IRO can officially collect donations and besides appealing to the community for funds and launching IRO's fund raising plans we will begin submitting applications for grants for our "dream" Rescue Center/Sanctuary.

2. Update on Volunteer Program Plans with the City Vet:
I will be having a meeting with the City Vet tonight to discuss with her about the various programs we will be coordinating with her in the spirit of "volunteerism" to help the Aspins of Cebu. As of now, IRO members have suggested the following:
(a) IRO members volunteering at the City Pound to help the dogs being impounded...like taking them for walks, giving them luvs, playing with them, bathing them so they look adoptable, identifying the Aspins in the pound that are adoptable, rescuing those that are adoptable before they are killed and placing them in foster homes (while we still do not have the IRO Center), and posting the adoptables in our Istorya and our soon to be developed website to find forever homes for them.
(b) IRO members volunteering with the City Vet for upcoming clinics in the Baranggays to administer rabies shots and providing spay/neuter services.
(c) IRO members volunteering in the City Vet's educational campaign in the public schools this coming June.
(d) Planning the upcoming Aspin Awareness Day and Fun Match in June. June is Rabies Month so it will coincide really well with the City Vet's anti rabies campaign.

I will tell the City Vet that the Volunteer Committee is meeting Thursday so that new ideas may develop out of that meeting in addition to the ones stated above.

3. News from Friends for the Protection of Animals, U.S. ("FPA") The Director of FPA will be in Cebu in May to visit us. I would like to plan a "party" so that IRO membership can meet her and welcome her to our Island. Beth is originally from Samar. I would like to suggest that this party can coincide with the premier showing of the documentary "Vicktory to the Underdog" which she will be bringing to me. It has been ordered and delivered to her home already.

4. Monthly Membership Meeting: What do the membership think about having IRO Monthly Meetings and in these meetings we can have a 1/2 or 1 hour presentation either by video, presentations, or invited speakers so that we can all learn how to help animals? Please send me feedback either here in IRO, Yahoo Instant Message, or email.

I really want to commend the Committee Coordinators and Officers for a job well done! IRO has been getting more inquiries here in Istorya and in Facebook for membership. I am aware of some "struggles" already unfolding in IRO. We should view these "struggles" as a good sign of a living organization that is starting to become active, because without struggle and the exchange of ideas, there is no growth. As real life has taught us, where there is pain, there is gain. And believe me, there will be plenty of struggles and pain that IRO will experience! What is critical though is that we keep our eyes on the prize...and the prize is that one day IRO will no longer be needed because all the animals will be treated the way God has mandated us to treat them.

Being a united front with different ideas, beliefs, philosophies, etc. is healthy as long as our joint mission is to help animals. This is what will make IRO unique and progressive.
