Two reasons to do this: 1) it keeps the banana longer, 2) the texture of the banana, when blended frozen, is ideal for smoothies. Strawberries remain fresh in the freezer as well, and keep longer
I also would consider the price of the drink. I am sure they're selling it at a reasonable price. If they are using frozen bananas, frozen strawberries and pureed mangoes without the added sugar, and the pineapple, I still would consider this a health drink.
If they used canned and sweetened mango concentrate like the ones commonly used in shakes in place of fresh mangoes, strawberry powder mix with the frozen bananas and fresh pineapple, then I would not call this a health drink.
I myself don’t drink anything with sugar anymore. Water with lemon and the occasional diet sodas are for me.
try the sandwiches and cakes & pastires at Cafe Miro.. delicious! will do a review soon.
i suggest the black forest ham hsandwich (I am unsure of the name but it's something like that)
^^ where is Cafe Miro located man? thanks!
have you tasted old bananas.Originally Posted by food-critic
That is how it tasted.
Bananas become darker once it is peeled and you will see it in their frozen packs. its darker than fresh banana.
have you observed banana that is left open.
banana should be blended fresh to keep the flavor.
Freezing it will alter its taste.
I have tried strawberry banana drinks else where
they always use fresh banana and frozen strawberry.
I don't have a problem using frozen strawberries since it doesn't grow here.
but BANANA??
is banana that expensive you need to freeze it to make it last longer?
freezing banana will take away its flavor and it will taste really bad.
a health drink is one that uses FRESH ingredients. Freezing it will destroy its unique qualities especially frozen banana and to think there are lots of bananas available. Its not a RARE fruit.
interesting point. but i don't like banana.![]()
* You can peel the bananas or leave the skin on and freeze it. Two reasons: to keep it longer and not over-ripen, and smoothies come out better when bananas are frozen.
* Smoothies are made with fruits, ice and juice as opposed to shakes that are dairy based. Frozen bananas, in lieu of ice and dairy is the key ingredient to smoothies.
* Bananas lose some of its nutritional value when frozen, but it doesn’t mean that it’s unhealthy. You still get your carbs, fiber, and protein.
* When you’re in the food business, you find ways to cut down on wastage. Freezing extends the freshness of food, even fruits, and that doesn’t mean to say that you “destroy its unique qualities”, and being a fruit in abundance locally, and being inexpensive doesn’t mean that you can just let it go to waste cause of it’s availability.
Then again, you cannot please everyone. To each his own
Freezing would only delay the spoiling of fruits.Originally Posted by food-critic
Freshness means you make it right then and there. Especially banana which can be grown all season and there is an abundance.
I can understand if strawberry is frozen.
But banana??
Its so abundant.
The problem is you think its a WASTE.
Why not buy 3 bananas a day if you think your customer will consume only that many? If your sales increase add 1 banana and so on and so forth.
Its about management... FREEZING banana shows you are INEFFICIENT IN MANAGING..
you can predict how many customers will order that drink and then you buy only that no. of bananas.
if you can't do that.... SAD to say.... you need to undego SIX SIGMA training.
the keyword is Efficient inventory and delivery of good or services.
I am willing to pay a PREMIUM for FReshness. But don't give me frozen fruit especially banana.
I didnt think that there wouldbe someone so passionate about bananas.. hehehe
