Default Re: how intel HT works & comparing it to Dualcore

haha... kataw-onon baya aning mga AMD fanboys oi... HT improves multitasking/multithreading performance over non-HT single core processors a lot. With HT I can play Counter-Strike Source and encode a DVD at the same time and still get playable framerates... I can switch to another application while rendering with my P4 w/HT way way way faster than my A64. Why can't you guys admit the fact that the P4 w/HT has some advantages over the A64?

... and don't think that I am an Intel fanboy. I was an AMD fanboy before but have since retired from that "fanboy" nonsense... I now enjoy having both platforms for different tasks / applications.

..but the heat and power consumption caused by a bad design/architecture are still the dominant factors why not to switch to the intel hype.

true that it can "hype up" task/thread, but on the expense of hyping up your watt-hour meter as well

yup same sad ako way, while wating for DVDburning or rendering video i play CS:source or DTX mania

I think they cant admit it cuz they havent tried using HT, orif they got cash for another rig they wont Chose intel cuz of the FEAR of buying something nonsense, i got bought system (2.8prescott and AMD64 3000venice) and they work fine (my AMD is not mine) on different applications

In my case, the kind of productivity I'm getting negates the negligible increase in electricity usage. I was only able to render 1 DVD (capture, minimal edit, to burn) in a day before... with my P4 I can do 2-3... and if you really want to save up on electricity then switch to 9" monochrome monitors... trust me, you'll save a lot compared to switching anything else... and it's not a bad design... it is a clever design that you or me cannot make... it's just a bit less efficient than AMD's design.

... and bad news for you, it isn't a hype.

    Naa sad hype ang AMD:

    HyperTransport
Direct connect Architecture(memory controller embedded to the Proc elimenating FSB bottleneck)
and Data prefetch which is exclusive for 3d now instructions. (I think this is why loading
time is quicker in AMD procs)

My experience hinay kaayo ang P4 especially the loading times of games and applications.
Mura man og Celeron ang P4. and sa athlon I noticed it has a quicker response in processing data and running applications than P4.

Hyperthreading would help in game performance if the game is a multithreaded game. And most games aren't multithreaded.

We can see P4 is cramming to catch up with the introduction of their under developed prescott core didn't consider heat issues of their processor.
and now they are cramming to get ahead introducing its 65nm 955 extreme edition(short lived fastest proc) which
is fairly beaten by the FX-60 dual core proc which is only at 90nm. Heheh.

I found out na Intel first priority is marketing and hype(which works). And AMD is entirely the opposite of it they focused in Performance and features.

akari, you don't get our point... our point is you can do more at once with HT than on an Athlon64. All of my statements are based on experience... I have a P4 3.2Ghz and an Athlon64 3200+... the P4 can do simultaneous tasks more efficiently than my A64. Hope that clears things out...

Since your comparing AMD with intel
I have just comed up to such topic.
I was also refering to tolstoi's previous post about hypes

    and
I also did't get the topic either.
comparing Intel dual core with HT core isn't really a comparison its just an INTEL advertisement. The website only advertises Intels new dual core HT processor and not comparison.

for real comparison I think benchmarks should be the standard:

hmmm..you can only tell that power consumptions and heat factors matter if you have 10-20 PC's running overtime..just like in an office/internet cafe set-up..picture this out:

more power hungry PCs means more power consumption....more heat means more load from the airconditioner that prompts the owner to install additional unit...suma total..additional CO$$$$T..

nothing can beat an efficient AMD system
