That screwed up my upgrade path big time...

A lot of enthusiasts were eyeing Phenom as an upgrade processor for their aging X2 systems.... and how does AMD reward thos people who didnt go for C2D? They release a processor that doesnt work with their existing systems...

At least the newer Pentium 4's using LGA775 were able to upgrade to Core 2 Duo.

The thing is... AMD designed the Phenom to be compatible with existing AM2 sockets... good intentions... terrible execution...
True AMD has really had a bad mistake advertising that.

Yes p4 mobos are compatible with core 2 duo. Were talking about older generation motherboards and its compatibility with quad core processors. I doubt that motherboards those that are built on the p4 era will support quad core even if its LGA775.

Intel also has LGA775 motherboards that are not compatible with quad cores chipsets that is Lower than P965 chipset.

WHo cares if those old Nvidia AM2 570 or 590 chipsets are not compatible with phenom. Those chipsets are not worthy for a Phenom quadcore. I mean those are prehistoric chipsets.

for the record im not a intel fanboi

    hehehehe..

    my system is AMD..

im just thinking that AMD's gonna think of something that would really rock the intel bagwagon..

    heheheh..

    and yes...

"Intel also has LGA775 motherboards that are not compatible with quad cores chipsets that is Lower than P965 chipset."

at least it works on C2D's which is still a performarnce per buckz...
u can have a 2,100php Motherboard that supports the latest C2D's

    having 1066 and 1333 fsb...

and u dont need a C2Q to defeat a Phenom.. [cough]

i think i smell a green team here.. hehehehe...

and yes... in the end AMD's still gonna be crawling to nVidia and and ask for a Chipset for them....

take note nVidia Chipsets are that 1 that help AMD beat Intel's P4 [cough][Netburst suckz big time]

    ^^

This news is both good and bad, its good to see intel really pushing technology at its limits. this is bad if AMD wont be able to compete with intel since prices wont have any reason to drop not intel has no reason to push out newer technologies faster. More trouble for AMD this Jan 20,2008 when the penyrn E8xxx series is official released.

If your talking about socket compatibility, Its an obvious fact the older generation Intel chipsets dont support quadcores, and it is also true for AMD but then again socket AM2 is not as old as LG775.

A lot of people who care that actually own those kinds of REAL hardware instead of imaginary hardware.

The only fanbiosm we see here is you, please disprove anything on the link i posted above. show your credible sources.

You dont read do you, AMD did say that Phenom IS compatible with the exsisting AM2 motherboards OUT OF THE BOX.. that was promised but now it turns out that you NEED a SIMPLE bios flashing to have it running on the board.

    the question is
why would anybody wanna use Phenom on an AM2 motherboard. When there is a motherboard and chipset built natively for Phenom which is the AM2+.
To save money from the next to nothing performance gains at stock speeds, take for example a P965 to a P35 chipset show me real world applications that skyrocket the performance.
A simple bios update can save customers a few hundred $$

you should read the links you posted, and cross reference it with another source to check its validity

Incase you didnt know, Phenom DOES use AM2 socket. your comparison is invalid and retarded.

Incase you lived in a rock for the past years, YES Tom has always been biased to Intel. but this is the very same news that is on different internet sources.

Your ignorance is still amazing me up until now, the delay caused by the TBL has NOTHING to do with AMD purchasing ATI.

I care... I bought a 300usd shuttle system and you can't expect me to throw it away because It's not compatible with Phenom.

Not all enthusiasts just buy complete systems or platforms when they come out (spider). They upgrade certain parts while maximizing performance and minimizing costs to upgrade.

I would say... the Phenom is not a worthy upgrade to existing socket AM2 systems.. hehe

Also, the 570, 590 are not prehistoric. Unless you would call 1 year old hardware prehistoric or you're the type who just keeps on buying complete boxed systems and doesnt even care to upgrade them.
