one more thing... there is a band that i know of in cebu and they're pretty good but they're underground... i ask the vox/bassist why he wanted to stay underground even if they already have a huge following in the punk scene. the guy told me that he make music for his own satisfaction and his own escape from the harsh reality of his life... infact sometimes he gets jealous when other people listens to his song. i asked him then why be in a band... people tend to hear his song... he told me that somebody out there might be feeling the same thing and might understand why he is writing. it took me sometime to understand what he meant... but later on it all made sense to me.

what did he mean? how would he make someone out there who feels the same way know that his song exists, when in the first place he gets jealous of other people listening to his music. i know your friends train of thought might be deep, but please enlighten me. thanks

dont think you can call bands "indie" if they appear on MTV though... major label can make you big but underground can set you free.

juz like what shak said i would rather "spend for my art than getting paid for my art..." because when ur getting paid there is an obligation along with the pay and that alone is synonymous to being a slave.

it's like being an employeer bein ur own boss.

this is quite true, but then sooner or later the artist will have to find ways to get money to pay their artistic creations. whether it being a music related job or not your still being a slave one way or another. its better to think that when you are getting paid to do your craft you are not working for money, instead think of it as money working for you. when the time is right and you pooled all your resources together you will be able to be your own boss. you can start to hire people to work for you. hehehe just a thought..

yeah... we have our own opinion. same here... D.I.Y. forever! hehehehehe... to tell you the truth the underground can be constricting at times... people tend to put you inside a bottle. one false move and u'd be labelled a "sell out" by everybody... hehehehehehe... i'd go for midground/D.I.Y./smart-sell-outs. wakekekekekeke...

i still don't get the rabid egotism going on in the indie scene. how they make music just for a specific crowd(their crowd) and as more worse, as stated above, music for himself only. not to bash anyone, but i think the only reason for doing this is the musician or the writer knows his song can only be appreciated by him and the people who listen to what he listens. that degrades artistic merits in my book. its like a painter who creates these impressionist and abstract paintings to please himself and his elite circle of friends. not that theres anything wrong with it, i'm a fine arts student and i've been taught that abstraction is beauty in its purest form, nothing more nothing less. but the pretentiousness of it all is what makes me cringe. sorry to say.

makes you wonder what it was all for. music is supposed to reach the majority of people. at least thats what it was in the 60s and maybe in the 90s(gen x, ehehe). and even more funny, the mindset of some of the musicians before, the ultimate goal was to Change the World! well rock music at least.
now its just...self-satisfaction? sad, really sad.
