download and install AVG free Antivirus, proven in both XP and Vista.

sounds more like walay pulos ang sysadmin or ang IT. joke!
for all you know it could be just PEBCAK error. AVG is a very good protection.. saying nga walas pulos doesn't sound right.

You can try this, but it also disables the autoplay for CD, DVD and other drives:

Start -> Run -> gpedit.msc

Go to "Administrative Templates" -> "System". Next, doubleclick "Turn off Autoplay", check "Enabled" and select "All drives".

you can also try pressing and holding SHIFT key b4 entering any autoplay media...

unless you have a very good reason to do so, why insert your drive to a system that has no updated virus protection? is it a matter of life and death??

your lockdown procedure is nice... but...

good viruses/malwares:

-disables the folder options
-disables the msconfig
-disables the cmd
-disables the registry editor (more or less the source)

and even if you try to fix 'em and everything goes back to normal...

they already created some trojan files (this is just only an example) that will wait for you to click them...

and then the whole process of recreating the problem continues...

-all in all... nothing beats a good virus scanner (or try vista, they claimed to have better security features...)
