    Stick to XP, your hardware is ages away for vista, 2Gb is just a start 4gb is highly recommended with ram prices so cheap now some people are thinking of getting 6-8gb for vista.. its like 512mb vs 2gb on windows xp

    @Topic

    With the lack of 64bit support on drivers and software, im still sticking to windows XP maybe for 2-3 more years ( XP support dies 16 months from now w/c isnt bad for an O.S released 2001 )

    heh, kinda funny that you mention 4GB and up of RAM when 32bit Vista doesn't even support that much RAM, no 32bit OS does.

    at first makalagot, but you'll get used to it..... makalagot lang usahay ang UAC..... maayo pud ang memory management sa vista when running programs, IMHO....

    Actually vista 32bit can support 4gigs of ram. It just would just show up there in the task bar. So don't panic if you see only 3.5 or 3.2gigs on your task bar when you have 4gigs of RAM. The other remaining rams undetected are just allocated for the kernel.

    Its the same for 64bits it uses same amount of ram at startup that the 32bit misses.

    Support, well yes and no. 32bit is limited to 2^32 = 4.2gb of total memory space, that includes all the system devices such as IDE,SATA,PCIe,PCI,LAN,Sound ect ect.. but all of those devices do not use up memory but instead it uses the total allocatable memory space hence it is reduced to 3.2 ~ 3.5gb of usable ram the 2nd part that eats up usable ram is the amount of VRAM on your videocard whatever the content in the vram is copied to the system ram thus reducing the total usable even further.

    To make things short, no 32bit O.S. can support higher than 3.2 ~ 3.5 ( not even the windows server 2003 enterpise edition nor using PAE hacks )

    Feel free to correct me on this provided you show the proper technical documents.

    What makes you think im referring to the 32bit vista.. we all know what happens when you assume.

    EDIT:

    Typo on WPE instead of PAE

    so what you reffered as unusable RAM in 32 bit OS if you have 4 gigs is being used by the system?

    So therefore
    vista 32 can actually detect 4 gigs of ram.

    Vista support 4GB, but part of it are used for IO, memory mapped devices and so on. So if you are lucky, you have 3.5GB free (I have), but most people just have about 3GB.
    That also one reason why many systems are shipped with only 3GB.
