and and come on, if it wasn't for 'pistols, who laid the groundwork for anarcho-punk, where would all this great punk rock bands be?
yup ur correct on that but wat ia m driving at is the it was all for business and it re exists to make money as in any business and pistols as u say malcolm si a n opportunist was quick to use em..as w other bands..but one undeniable fact ithey are mondo influencial if my memory wouldnt fail me now ive read once in '88 from a rusty old NME they had this gig at detroit and only a sprinkling persons showed up..and the show didnt even lasted an hour..but the fact is all or majority of those who watched that gig went on to forms bands of their own..and that i could say is an achievement of some sort though dubious if others would say so.

About *** Pistols - daghan maka sulti nga silay nag lay down sa groundwork for anarcho-punk kay sila may pinaka popular (bisag karon, you ask these kids kung who founded PUNK ROCK .. mo ingon dayon na sila "*** PISTOLS"). Pero buot huna-hunaon... image and attitude are the only thing that they have. They don't have any talent at all - their music sucked!!
as far as my memory serves me wa jud ko kahinumdum nga nag sound trip ta ila Marte og *** pistols..clash man gyud ta oi..

@Ezra: punk rock was not all about talent to begin with. cguro it's a slice on the cake pero definitely not the main part(probably just the icing). some of the sloppiest punk bands i love are technically not that good pero they have the ethics(DIY), attitude(no compromise), etc etc. The Beatles are talented but can you label them as a punk band? On the other hand, Minor Threat are no musical virtuoso pero they have the ethics and attitude.

watch the filth and the fury documentary. youll know alot bout the pistols. johnny rotten auditioned singing alice cooper song his way.... he was hired on the spot. Sid was hired because of his attitude. he could barely play.... later became a junkie and died of heroin overdose.

i have to disagree w/ ezra. punk isnt supposed to sound good. all it is, is musical expression and poetry. god save the queen and anarchy in uk were brilliant songs esp. in that era. kids these days dont know jack shit bout music history. punk rock can be traced back to the velvet underground in the 60s. 70s punk were just too proud to accept it, but in recent interviews they all recognized vu as one of the roots of punk. unfortunately, the media and mtv killed music in general.

i prefer the pistols over ramones and clash for a 3 reasons:

    1. the *** pistols attitude is set 100 on the filth meter. (imagine sid spitting on you in front)
    2. the ramones have long hair. (thier songs are still great no doubt)
    3. the clash as more of a reggae/ska touch. to me reggae/ska are happy tunes. punk is mad, loud and aggressive.

like i said, rent/download the filth and the fury

heres a part on the movie:
thier infamous bill grundy interview. notice siouxie sioux in the back before she was w/ the banshees, and saying shit and **** on TV in the 70s was allready too much for them...

I just appreciate different things when it comes to music. I agree that attitude is what drives the pink movement.. But for me, talent is a major factor for me to appreciate music.
The Jesus and Mary chain is a band that has a good mix of talent and attitude... Although theyre not punk, I just wanna throw that in
