I gave up my first true puppy love because of this.
My high school crush asked my barkada to the prom
(not me) and they ended up being together but only
    for a couple of months.

After years not speaking to him, I was already in college,
we crossed paths and he realized I was the one and I
still had feelings for him that time. He visited me several
times and asked my brother's approval since they were
barkada but I turned him down. My loyalty still goes to
my barkada who still loved him.

So much for a fairytale ending hehehe

Yes, especially that you like the person. It's no BIG deal having a date with the ex of a friend.

If you are real friends, one can understand.

I'd prefer sharing food rather than eating left overs

That would depend on how the previous relationship went. If ever it was an amicable break-up and no complications, why not? But if it ended tragically, then no.
