creating our own distro won't do much good in open source awareness here in cebu.
if you want people to recogonize linux.. teach people linux...free or minimal fee. the trick is making it attractive enough so people would want to learn it..
this is the line --------- cross it. i dare you
The problem with mosts groups here are their elitist attitude. They want to spread Linux, they ridicule the people who don't know Linux, but yet don't make it easy for those who want to learn. Why in the world does the Philippines need another distro? We already have two (Bayanihan and Lorma). Both of which are underused and underdeveloped. Another distro only serves to boost the ego of the so-called developers. Instead of helping out an already existing project, the resources are mis-allocated to a distro that will last a couple years and die off.

where is here? your location is the states right? The problem with mosts groups here are their elitist attitude
Yup.,its true that there are some that some a!!ho## in some groups but most of the time you get
flak not because you don't know linux but try to ask really annoying questions. And when people get an RTFM reply from a linux guru they usually tend to take it as an insult...
just my 2cents..
I'm in the US, but I was referring to Cebu and the Philippines in general when I said "here".

well the philippines doesn't necessarily need a new distro, although a more localized version might be advantageous. that would spark the people's interest in linux. this is just what i think though, and i could be very wrong...
and another thing: helping in bayanihan development isn't as easy as it should be. for one thing you'd have to be in manila to be a significant contributor.
COUNT ME IN . . . i just hope we won't be like what VERN referred to.
