english movies will help you a lot
tan-aw nalang ug daghang english movies bai..
nothing beats practice kana kung dli ka mauwaw mag iningles...hehehe
personally, i find watching news in english e.g. cnn,bbc etc. and other english palabas really help plus reading loads of books kaya if you want to be fluent in speaking english quit watching tagalog soap opera, wowoweee and the likes
you can learn a lot from reading. while reading, have a dictionary on hand, and make sure u remember the words that are new to you. ang daghan jud siguro ug errors kay kanang subject-verb agreement ug tenses. so heads up.
practice makes perfect. very true. dont hold back when you speak the language. when you realize that you've made a mistake, acknowledge it and correct yourself.
Well be sure to make it fun. If you have to read, read something you are interested in. Start first with easy reads. Sing English songs, learn to rap even, just to exercise your tongue a bit.
Naa koy mahinumduman sa mga tiguwang ba, mag kanta kanta unya, naay tig translate sa kanta into bisaya or english. Now that is fun. Helps you to translate thoughts from English - Bisaya/Tagalog, or vise versa. It might seem crazy but I taught my sisters to be more confident in reading by writing the lyrics of their favorite songs. Of course they try to sing them right because they don't want to murder their favorite song. Hehe. Bitaw oi, I think that's one fun way to help with some pronunciations and sentence constructions. Dili nuon tanan kay naa may naay poetic license wrong grammar na nuon . Just a suggestion.![]()

^sulayi ni bro. shortcut ni, ma expand imong vocabulary and sentences in a short time.
1. choose a common or popular english phrase or sentence.
*example : Have you really loved a woman? (that song by Bryan Adams)
2. study the construction
*kuhaon nato ang "really" to simplify it -> have you loved a woman?
*the structure is: have/has + subject + verb + object ------>sakto ba, istoryans?
*notice that the verb has the "-ed"...kung have or has gani, ang verb kay in its past participle form
3. study about past participle
*love - loved
*eat - eaten
*ride - ridden
*sell - sold
*write - written
etc.
3. substitute the subject, verb, and object to make your own questions
*Examples:
1. Have you ridden a camel?
2. Have you written to your mom already?
3. Have you sold any items today?
4. Have your friends informed you of the upcoming EB?
5. Have Stan and Emily gotten married?
1. Has he tried kissing him?
2. Has she seen the two of them kissing?
3. Has Willie apologized to Joey?
4. Has Joey accepted the apology?
etc.
Hope that helps!
[color=navy]@libido, here are some more tips for you to try aside from the other suggestions mentioned in the thread.
1) Improve your English Vocabulary. Try to learn a new word everyday. Understand its meaning and how to use the new word properly in several sentences.
2) Learn to WRITE properly in English.
If you know and constantly practice WRITING well in English, soon you will be THINKING in good English and then it makes SPEAKING in English with confidence all the easier.
You can begin practicing in your posts here in iStorya.net~ you can practice the basic grammar rules frequently as you post. Do not post anymore in Filipino or Bisaya. Make sure the spelling of the words is correct. No textspeak.
If you're really serious in achieving this goal, then you can do this.
3) Reading English books. Reading English does help but let me add to it that reading only one book will not help you in improving your English, not even TEN books. If you have just started reading in English, then it will takes A LOT of books.
You must constantly read books written in English, you have to understand the text and absorb it in your mind.
You can do this by memorizing quotes or phrases, that you like, from the books, or any other article that is written in English.
4) Being FLUENT in English does not mean a person is TALKATIVE in English.
There is nothing wrong with taking your time in expressing yourself in English, as long as you able to CLEARLY deliver what you want to say in English then it is okay.
Do not panic, if you sound slow-- it is all right as along as you frequently practice. Soon, you will become comfortable and confident in speaking English. You will develop a way of speaking English that is natural for you.
Hope these help you in improving your communication in English. Please remember that nothing comes instantly. You must be patient with yourself but persist and practice constantly if you want to be better.

And to add to that, feel free to have a dictionary beside whilst reading your book. That way, if there's a word you can't understand or pronounce well, you could just look it up right away.
