    This is soo true. I had a manager who applies the same "weight" of make-up no matter the time of day. Imagine, say lunch time and she wears HEAVY (yes all caps) make-up. Thick eyeshadow - bold colors (think purple, green, gold), thick mascara, thick foundation -- we can literally see her face "cracking" later in the day, red lipstick. We found it so disgusting - she got away with it because of her position.

    Now, to the tips:

    Invest on good foundation. Clinique makes super fab liquid foundations.
    Invest on expensive lipstick. You see, if you buy the cheap ones (like the Php99.00 Avon lipsticks), the color isn't really the one you wanted and it won't come out nice. Even though it's only 99 pesos, it's wasted coz you don't get to use it as often as you would want coz it's not the right color.
    Invest on good blush. Steer clear from cheap ones, they make you look like a clown. Although, some cheap ones are okay.
    Use petroleum on your lips to make it supple, and lush/fresh looking.
    Trim/shape your eyebrows-- it will help define your face, again think of "canvass"
    and don't forget, a woman's secret weapon - Black, Mousse, Waterproof Mascara.
    "JUST A WOMAN? Oh honey no!

    I am awesome with a splash of bitch and a dash of wonderful.

    sorry but i dont quite agree with most of this. cheap does not always mean their colors will look horrible on you, and just because a make up is expensive that will also not guarantee that it will look fabulous on you.

    i have tried alot of make up from the high end brands like clinique, lancome, christian dior, estee lauder, chanel and clarins down to the cheapos like rimmel, l'oreal, maybelline, max factor,revlon and neutrogena and yet i cant really say the "expensive" brands are only the best coz personally some of the cheap make up i have tried can easily compete with the expensive ones, sometimes they are even better.

    a big part of what makes high end brands expensive is their fancy packaging and the cost of advertising. but if you look at their ingredients, they use almost the same thing.

    personally, i think when it comes to make up the most important thing is using the right shade that flatters your skin tone and the way how you apply it. its natural for us to prefer expensive brands, it gives us that sense of "luxurious feeling". but in reality the price of the make up is not the thing that will make you look beautiful on it because regardless of how cheap or expensive it is, if your using the wrong shade and its not applied or done correctly, thats when you end up looking like a clown...... or worst maybe looking like someone who was born from hell

    yes many local products make the cut brand wise too...for example Avon's mascaras are very very good because they lengthen the lashes very well as a friend suggested...

    you can never go wrong with MAC foundations....they have every shade of skin covered including the dark hues of many Filipino women....plus they blend well from light to heavy coverage....and of course MAC is already well known for their MAKEUP BRUSHES....

    you can use anything which makes you feel comfortable when it comes to makeup appliers like BRUSHES or SPONGES....Brushes are able to cover hard-to-reach areas like inner corners of the eyes while sponge provides power when it comes to coverage....there is a popular belief in the makeup forums that using the FINGERTIPS warms the concealer or foundation so that it "melts" and blends in really well on the skin...

    concealers: nothing beats LAURA MERCIER although maybelline concealers are also nice

    and most of all...dont buy too much makeup LOL its a crime i am guilty of aaargh!!!

    you don't agree with most of what i posted or just the part where i said "invest on expensive lipstick"?

    Oh well, perhaps i didn't explain it well. I was speaking from experience I guess. You see, I'm frugal, I don't buy brand names but when it comes to lipstick, ive had enough. When you buy a 99 peso worth of lipstick like what ive actually said in my previous post, you don't actually get the color that you're looking for. Thus, it doesn't look good on you.

    Of course you need to pick the right shade for you, it's quite stupid not to when you're buying to beautify yourself. Why buy something to make yourself look like a clown? I didn't realize i need to say it explicitly when it has been said by others before me.

    Did i say invest on expensive foundation? Nope, I said Good. I only mentioned Clinique coz that's what I'm using.

    and finally, I said this: "Invest on good blush. Steer clear from cheap ones, they make you look like a clown. Although, some cheap ones are okay."

    So I still needed to mention a name? How bout Ever Bilena's Cheek Blush? That's what I'm using.

    Please don't turn my words like an attack to cheap make-up. I use cheap ones too, but it boils down to preferrence still.

    If i seemingly sent out a message NOT to buy cheap ones, then that' not what I meant.

    Makeup Shelf Life
    How long to keep makeup: the shelf life of cosmetics.
    © Chrissy Dolezal

    Just like many things we use throughout the day, there is a shelf life of cosmetics. How long should you keep that blue mascara from high school you can't buy anymore?

    Makeup shelf life various on the kind of cosmetics and the type of cosmetics you purchase. There are some simple guidelines of how long to keep your cosmetics. Just because you have a little bit of lipstick still in the tube doesn't mean you should be using it. For beautiful, healthy skin you need to know makeup shelf life.
    Makeup shelf life guidelines to follow:

    First off, if it smells, stinks, has a distinct odor that should not be, throw it away! I am amazed at how long women will keep cosmetics that have a bad odor. Do yourself a favor and trash it.

    Another good rule of thumb, if you can't remember when you purchased it, trash it. Makeup should not stir up memories from ten years ago. If you makeup bag does, throw it out!

    Thank you to iVillage for the article, Are your cosmetics past their use-by date? by Eva Gizowska. The following is a simple guideline to follow when you are cleaning out your makeup bag.

    * Oil-Free Foundation: 1 year
    * Cream or Compact Foundation: 18 months
    * Concealer: 12-18 months
    * Powder: 2 years
    * Blush and Bronzer: 2 years
    * Cream Blush: 12-18 months
    * Powder Eye shadow: 2 years
    * Cream Eye shadow: 12-18 months Eyeliner: 2 years
    * Liquid eyeliner: 3-6 months
    * Mascara: 3 months
    * Lipstick: 2 years
    * Lip liner: 2 years
    * Lip gloss: 18-24 months
    * Nail Color: 1 year

    If you are using natural cosmetics, these should be thrown out sooner. Regular cosmetics contain ingredients that do help prolong shelf life. But of course natural cosmetics do not. Please check with your favorite natural store for the information on the cosmetics you love.

    My favorite tip to make throwing out your cosmetics a little easier: Buy yourself a Sharpie to keep with your makeup bag. Write your own expiration date on the cosmetics that way you will always know when it is time to replace.
