Not from what I know, traveled to a few countries myself and my boyfriend, he didnt get charged nor did I when I traveled.
You just get charged for the overweight luggage, thats about it. And just incase, bring the bill of the laptop you bought, so it's proof that its yours [some airports checked that before, but now not really .. just incase]

asa man pd mo traveled.?outside or inside country lang.?kai if inside the country wla man jd charge dba.?or naa pd charge even if u traveling in the country.?

I didnt get what you said because I only know English [foreigner here]
But wherever you travel, you dont really pay for it [I've travelled to a few countries with my lap, same applies to my bf] and none of us ever had to pay, whether its IN the country or OUT.

P.S I'm only on about the laptop that goes WITH you into the airplane. If any other computer, you probably have to pack it very good and say its a FRAGILE thing, so they dont throw it all over, but if it goes over the given weight then you pay charges, for ANYTHING that goes over the limited weight in an airport. [Still not sure about computers]

Is it a computer or a laptop? If a laptop, you can take it with you inside without any problem.

^ he's referring to a desktop... if a notebook, no need to worry... if its a desktop, then the weight is an issue (from the country of origin. in his case, Cebu or Manila... depending on his air plane ticket)... plus, the tax that would be asked by his country since he'll would be bringing an item (gaming PC) that he purchased from outside . this inspection is done through sampling though... he'll be going back to Malaysia...

here in Shanghai, for the foriegners, only the luggage content will be checked by the Chinese customs upon our entry... but for the locals/ main land Chinese, they would be checked (again, this activity is sampling). if they bring items bought from outside, they would be charge for a tax if the cost surpassed the allowed items that's free of duties...

in your case, its a lappy, nothing to worry about it... same as me when I travelled to other countries... i'll always bring along my notebook PC. when you'll return home in your home country, would your customs charge you if they'll find you that you're bringing items that you've brought from outside? if yes, then, that is the same case also here in the Philippines. i myself was sampled twice upon my entry in Mactan airport... payed my customs dues by bringing items that surpassed the allowed price that is free of tax duties... its a venue for profit generator for the government... that is, tax...

    @ TS,

i'll ask my Malaysian friends if you guys would be charge if you'll bring items bought from outside...

Ive had relatives and friends buy computer/rc parts from China, Malaysia, Canada and US. Theyd never had to pay any taxes. Those from US and Canada just take the goods out of the original packaging. That way they can declare them as used goods. If fragile, they retain the foam. Those from Malaysia and China have it as it was originally bought.

In the case of a whole rig, mostly likely you wont get slapped with taxes as long it is pre-assembled. If those were parts for a whole rig with their corresponding packaging/brand new cartons, youd have to put them in a single box. That box would have to big so most probably youll get questioned.
