    How exactly does that work?

And yeah, I'm serious. Because I can honestly say that if I receive money from any candidate, I would have no problem voting for the other one and get away with it.
Well, that is just one form of vote buying. Other examples would be politicians promising an ordinance, a support of a bill, a promise of contract, a promise of subsidy, or any promise of benefit if they are elected.

Ok. So subtlety is a key.

I'm just curious about the flat-out buying (paying money for) of votes. How does it work?

They have a clever way of doing this in Lapu-Lapu. They gave out sample ballots with holes so that when the voter shades in his choice, the holes would also record who he voted for. The voter then turns in the "evidence" of who he voted for and when it checks out, receives the money. I'm sure they have similar if not the same tactic in other places.

Never underestimate the ingenuity of our politicians when it comes to cheating. If only they were as smart in running this country, we'd be filthy rich.

I can't really picture it out, but if it's true that's how they do it, that's smart!

You're right, too bad they can't use their "smarts" to run our country.

Edit:I've actually never experienced having my vote bought. That's why I'm curious. Though, one time in Talisay, as I was walking by one of the public schools, someone gave me a sample ballot for an SK councilor candidate with P20.00 pesos in it.

    And I wasn't even a voter there.

Subtlety is the heart of that game. No politician wants to appear to have bought their votes, each one wants to have a noble and honest character in the eyes of the public. Besides, not only politicians buy votes directly, their allies, supporters and others who have vested interests in their election may resort to vote buying, the poltician may not have direct knowledge of the buying of votes. Example: Businessman A needs a certain ordinance to be passed to secure his business ventures in the city and he knows that through politician A, he can secure his plans. He may invest 1Million pesos to buy enough votes to secure the election of politcian A. Of course other factors need to be considered, like the winnability of politcian A, his popularity, etc... If politcian A proves to be a high risk investment due to his low rankings in survey, businessman A may approach politician B, who ranks high. Upon his assessment, the politcian B may secure his interests in the city, he will buy votes for politician B with or without permission.

^ I've also heard once of a company who encourages their employees to vote for one particular candidate. Or if they won't the employees should not be vocal in supporting the other candidate otherwise, he or she gets suspended.

It was rumored that the owners of the company were close buds with candidate they were endorsing.

I dunno how true this is, it may have been just "stories" that normally come out during election time. If it were true, it's just sad to know that even private citizens and private companies are used as accessories to dirty politicking.

countries like Korea or Japan and some European countries do have corruptions, corruption in S.Korea is as obvious as our country, but hey look! there country is part of the economically strong countries(first world) because Koreans do not give a damn about politics same as Japanese people,
but for Pinoys? as long as naa clay mabasol, ila basolon..
I think the truth is opposite of what you said. Most people don't care as much as they should. You may be basing your conclusions on posts in a politics forum that doesn't represent even 1% of the voting public... Wanting handouts from government ain't the same as caring about politics in my opinion... it merely shows that they care about getting freebies
