Rain, impeach defeat fail to dampen protest

For about 6,000 protesters, the fight to oust President Arroyo goes on.
Braving the rain, they converged at the People Power Monument on EDSA Wednesday, a day after the House of Representatives dismissed the impeachment complaints against the President.
Another group of protesters marched along España Boulevard in Manila but were kept far from Malacañan by hundreds of police.
Mayor Jejomar Binay of Makati City led a group of about 25,000 marchers, made up mostly of residents from his city, to the People Power Monument.
Ronald Lumbao, head of the People’s Movement Against Poverty, brought 500 members with him.
Another group of 3,000 from militant groups that included Anakbayan, Gabriela, Piston and Anakpawis arrived later.
The protesters tried to march to the EDSA Shrine half a kilometer up the road, but were blocked by police.
The rally tied up traffic on EDSA’s northbound lane.
Among political figures who attended the rally were the actress Susan Roces, Mayor JV Ejercito of San Juan, the House minority leader, Francis Escudero, Rep. Ronaldo Zamora of San Juan, former Sen. Ernesto Maceda, former Agrarian Reform Secretary Horacio Morales and former Internal Revenue Commissioner Liwayway Vinzons-Chato.
